Can anyone explain to me what he actually offers?

No pace, no creativity & no goal threat today.

Has done alright defensively in a couple of games but on the whole he’s mostly got in Davis’s way and slows everything down. Some of the money we have spent on average players is very concerning.

I'm not a fan and he doesn't work well with Davis. Davis needs to be surging up the outside but thats where Philogene is now.

It’s almost comical. McKenna has spent circa 100m on wingers - and we’re staring at possibly the worst (and joint most expensive) as being outright first choice. Are you trying to concombe me that he’s half the player Broadhead was Mr McKenna?

Was I watching a different game? Yes he had some poor moments but he also had some great moments. There is a lot of raw talent in him. To not mention it at all is being a tad disingenuous and is on the verge of scapegoating.

Broadhead and Burns were better than any of our kid-in-a-sweet-shop trinkets, and cost about the same as Philogene's forearm.

So. Are the purchasing decisions unaccountably bad, or have we ruined players who are genuinely worth what we paid?

Either way, McKenna has some serious ground to make up. At the moment it is looking like a number of our players were one-season wonders in the championship for their respective clubs. I am praying that McKenna does not also fall into this category.

Given our budget, our league one performance was about par, and our premier league performance was about par. I can't really see that that can be subject to too much disagreement, even though the former par was massively enjoyable and a huge relief, and the latter par was, well, less so.

He’s clearly talented, has an incredible touch but everytime he gets the ball it’s so slow! There’s no dynamism or drive or urgency. It’s so predictable.

He’s supposed to be a flair player, I’ve seen very little to get me off my seat so far.

Absolutely sick of this rhetoric on Philogene. It's edge lord stuff. He's been one of the better players this season to be honest.

We're a team that need to build relationships all over the pitch and that will come and he'll grow and grow into it.

If he was so fantastic a PL team would have come in for him a la Delap and Hutchinson

I thought he had a decent game today, but was better on the left than the right.

He’d had some decent moments through pre-season and in the first few games. And is also coming back from a bad injury of course. But no end product, so I can understand why people are questioning him. It’s not working with Leif.

Some on here weren’t too impressed when I raised many times J.Philogene and J.Clarke, look a long long way off what we need in that area - despite a combination of £40m for the pair.

Absolutely criminal transfer business from the Ashton and co. A club like ours, cannot spend that sort of figure and get it wrong.

For the money they've both been pretty terrible. Ogbene going out on loan now too allegedly. Spent £50m on wide players who are all seemingly not up to much.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Edge lord to suggest our £20m winger should be offering a lot more than what we have seen?

Not sure about one of our better players. To be fair that’s not much of a statement really either is it, tallest dwarf comes to mind.

Obviously you were watching a re run of Hull 2 seasons ago. So yes - you must have been watching a different game. Or did I miss the blistering defence beating runs, pinpoint crosses he delivered, and trickery to provide overlapping wing back runs..

Today he was anonymous. Worse performance on the pitch. As have most of his games. 20 million he cost. 20 million…..

Worse performance on the pitch? How about Young (second half in particular), Davis, O'Shea and Hirst?

I've tried to defend him for months thinking surely he will come good.

But I just don't see anything in him, he isn't a winger that runs at players, he doesn't create anything and doesn't cut in a take a shot on.

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

It's a band wagon whenever we get a poor result it's:

a) never would have happened with Hladky
b) Greaves fault
c) Philogene or Clarke's fault

Clarke certainly has a lot to do but I'll give this team time to come together. Unfortunately we can't afford to stay on this points trajectory long. Need some wins however we can get them as we build up.

£20m and he has raw talent, and some good moments… in the championship.

Technically very gifted, skillful and he looks as comfortable on his left foot as he does his right. As with some others though the system we play and what increasingly seems to be a lack of freedom to be allowed to play “off the cuff” means he doesn’t seem to be well-suited to a McKenna team.

The real question is why we bought him if we weren’t going to play to his strengths.

I really pity Egeli if this is the attitude that some will take with him. He's a human being, not bloody superman. It's difficult to shine in the Premier League and here we are, barely 4 games in and people are calling for his head despite the talent he clearly possesses.

For the rest we need to trust that Mck can get the best out of him. Like he did for Hutchinson. Like he did for Delap. This need for constant excellence based on a transfer fee helps no one.
