If it was truly about nothing other than national pride, surely those behind it (Führage, Tommy Ten Names et al.) would be speaking out against incidents like these:

Are you proud that Town won the trophies they have won?

If you have children, are you ever proud of anything they do?

Pride can come from a sense of affiliation or belonging. That isn't unusual.

Yes, absolutely. Not so much with Town. I wouldn't say 'proud' is the emotion. I dunno what is, but my children? Yeah, cos I had a part to play in that.

But even so, why do you feel that you can be proud of something you're affiliated with or 'belong' to, but you can't feel the opposite emotion? That seems odd to me.

Interesting to see a Sky News report about a man putting up flags in Lichfied.

Whilst appearing to be doing this off his own bat, when probed he mentioned the protest that Tommy Robinson is holding in London on Saturday, that he had been with Robinson the day before and that Robinson had given him the flags.

Probably because I never said that. In fact I said the opposite. I feel a mixture of pride and shame as I have explained.

Lovely people. They’re so patriotic they’re now going over to France to harass and allegedly assault foreigners. As if there were any doubts as to the motivation behind this racist movement.

That will get rejected (again), surely? But whatever the outcome, it’s frightening that these far right types are so emboldened that they think they can come crawling out of the woodwork so brazenly.

Had a fun encounter with a lorry driver who was weraing his new Union Jack woolly hat while washing hands at the Chelmsford service station today. I asked whether he shouldn't be hanging from a lamp post...the full beauty of this comment didn't strike me until I was walking out.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

I was approaching a roundabout in Peterborough on Monday and I was suddenly struck by the thought that nothing puts the Great in Great Britain more than a faded and frayed union flag and a pink and grey St George's cross.
Made me proud to be a patriot.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.
