If it was truly about nothing other than national pride, surely those behind it (Führage, Tommy Ten Names et al.) would be speaking out against incidents like these:

We all know that it’s largely coming from a place of hate, although no doubt some people will be partaking in good faith. You find out more about the country by the response to this type of racist vandalism. Apparently the community turned out to clean up that Chinese restaurant. That’s the real country, but unfortunately that’s not deemed newsworthy.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

If you did your research properly before posting utter rubbish then you would have a better idea of where this is coming from.

If it doesn't come from racism, hate for those seeking help, and cünts like Farage, pray where does it come from?

By christ I’m not. I’ve been ashamed to be English for about 20 years now. We have shown ourselves to be a repugnant nation for the most part of our history.

I suggest you try to distill your point into a coherent paragraph.

I am guessing you cant.

I am familiar with Weoley Castle. Seriously rough, but largely white suburb of Birmingham.

Three recent things of which I have direct experience, and all rather scary and appalling.

1. My daughter's best friend is a Muslim who has chosen to wear a headscarf. She says she now feels unsafe in public in view of her appearance even in a place as diverse as London where they met last night.

2. On my way to the Bromley game from Kent I popped into the Eastern European shop next to the station to get a drink. In front of me was an old man who had a go at the shopkeeper because he said he didn't speak English properly, which wasn't true at all.

3. On the way back on the train from the game yesterday there was a large group consisting of a couple of families, the adults of which were giving their views about "illegals" to what I think was a Polish man and his wife. I couldn't make everything they said but a couple of people nearby expressed their concerns about what was going on to the Polish couple when the people left the train.

The problem is that with nearly half the population thinking that there are more illegal migrants than legal (when there is only a fraction), the sort of attitudes that politicians and the media are expressing are inevitably going to spill over to people perfectly legally here often for decades.

So why are proud patriots using this as an excuse to racially abuse people, and re-live the darkest days of the National Front?

I know I shouldn't but I did laugh at the Chinese thing. Not at the senseless act or targeting of innocent people but because it is such a special brand of stupid it could only come from that sort of movement.

The NF and Reform voters will all claim to be patriotic. What is patriotism? If it’s just painting on roundabouts or attaching a flag to a bridge then it’s a pretty meaningless act as it’s far too easy.

True patriotism is putting the welfare of your country above the views of the individual. KFoor example Brexit - can someone be patriotic if they still champion it? Knowing (and they all know it) the damage that it’s done to the country? I would suggest not.

Compèred to which countries? If you choose to judge the past by the standards of today, you won’t find anywhere with much to crow about - especially if you compare nations that have existed as long or longer than England - Alfred, Edward and Athelstan’s time.

Edit: I’ve noticed flags and stuff but have no idea what this campaign or whatever you call it is. Pardon my ignorance. I’ve been avoiding the news having enough difficult stuff to deal with without that. What I do perceive is that there are a lot of people who are afraid and the likes of the Reform boneheads will feast on that.
