If it was truly about nothing other than national pride, surely those behind it (Führage, Tommy Ten Names et al.) would be speaking out against incidents like these:

The more that are allowed in will exacerbate the money problems this country has. It is estimated each illegal costs the UK £40,000 a year. Times that by the huge amount that Labour has let in and we are adding to the debt crisis. Why should tax payers keep paying more and more to stand still or go backwards and again if Rachel Reeves is in any way to balance the books large tax increases are on their way in Autumn.
The vast majority are legal and needed to support the economy. Without immigration we can't afford to pay for our society given our low birth rate....

I shall try to put some context on the protests/Flag flying. Obviously to anyone with a brain cell this started with regards to illegal immigration. not by the handful, but in their thousands and the protest were directly linked to alleged sex crimes committed by some in these migrant hotels. This current government has done nothing to prevent the increase in illegals coming here and whilst the Tories were not a lot better they had an idea with Rwanda. But opposition came from all angles and it literally never took off. Labour then abandoned Rwanda stating they would smash the gangs. Unless seriously helped by other European Countries it won't happen. Sadly for those protesting in a lawful manner both the left and the right have infiltrated and inflamed what were mild mannered protests. I'm not sure where the flag came in, but it is after all a symbol of this Country, just as the Star Spangled banner is in the US although we only seem to see the Union flag or flag of St. George when big football tournaments come around. Councils in certain areas have also inflamed the situation by allowing Palestine and other flags to fly, but then claim the British flag may fall and hurt someone ? Last night on Radio 5 they had an immigrant who was in a hotel and was saying he saw his family tortured and killed and that is why he is here. I personally have no problem with genuine asylum seekers. But if to be believed we are in a situation where the country is paying £110 billion in debt interest alone and again if the soothsayers are correct unless something drastic is done we will be going cap in hand to the IMF to bail us out and their terms will in no way allow this or maybe any government in the future to carry out what is needed in this country. Therefore the situation of unauthorised entry in the UK needs stopping now and not as Labour says by the time their current term finishes.
What a load of ill-informed jingoistic nonsense, a prime example of someone who has drunk the kool-aid and is making excuses for clear racist dog whistling.

There are so so many things that cost the UK taxpayer more, but you've chosen to go with this one as being the issue in relation to national debt.
Anyway, if we sped up asylum applications and moved people on from hotels more quickly, it's good to know that you'd welcome migrants with open arms as the only issue is the cost, right?

Would you be at all interested in digging out the people who are *actually* stealing your money? The ones who make sure you are being distracted with all this nonsense yet wouldn't p7ss you out if you were on fire?

Nothing has stopped these people having an England flag in there window or on a flagpole in their garden previously. They needed to make up the idea that everyone thinks they are a racist if they have an England flag to put it up and paint it (badly) on roundabouts...
If you want to fly an England flag in your garden go ahead, I could not care less, but anyone who tries to argue this movement comes from a place of harmless patriotism they are either very naïve or part of the problem.

It's designed to create pushback, to then play the narrative that YOU CAN'T DO NUFFINK DESE DAYS and further rally the army of the brain dead.
There's a fella down the road from me, always has an England flag up in his front garden, his choice, who cares.

Some idiot has defaced a roundabout near me literally yards from a house that has had a St George flag in the front window for years.

What a dreadful load of old nonsense
The only people who are in UK illegally are those who have been refused "Leave to Remain" and those who have outstayed whatever visa they may have had....eg Student visa or Tourist visa.
Asylum seekers are not illegals, they have every right to be here while their claims are assessed
The Rwanda scheme cost many millions of our hard-earned tax money .... for literally nothing; it was a terminally flawed idea
As previous posters have suggested, maybe you should turn to anger on the the tax evaders/avoiders who are dragging our fine country into the gutter rather than lashing out at asylum seekers who have the right to be considered for citizenship here.....
Otherwise people will just think you are a silly old racist, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that

My neighbour, who i assume is ex forces, has a flag pole in his garden and always has a flag up (George cross, union jack, Suffolk flag, even occasionally an itfc flag!).
At no point have I considered him racist, and I'm actually quite impressed that he has had no flag flying over the last week or 2, which seems a bit too coincidental not to be a conscious choice.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I’ve a few friends who are ex-forces, they’re my age (mid to late 30’s) and as they put it, they’ve friends who have died for the flag, buried with the flag but they’ve also seen the places that people are fleeing from to seek asylum here…
These lads are all from up North, towns like Redcar and Scunthorpe where the army target kids straight out of high school en masse. When they returned from Afghanistan most of them had ptsd, but they’ve made lives for themselves, got jobs in their local communities or nearby at different factories, had families, etc. I think it’s interesting how none of them identify as left or right leaning, they’ve just good blokes who have seen enough to know how wrong this all is.

Similar experience Dubs. My neighbour was very involved in the RBL and also helped to run an army cadets scheme. He also volunteered as a mechanic at Duxford. He always flew the Union flag on the allocated days. Sadly he died during lockdown but the RBL sent a flag bearer to lower the flag as he set of on his final journey. His was a genuine show of true patriotism, not this pseudo patriotic BS we are being served up by the right. We all know where this is coming from and anyone who states to the contrary is either incredibly naive or knowingly part of the hate.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

"each illegal" ?
wtf you on about? A person can't be an illegal - an act can, but not a person.

It's disgusting dehumanisation, isn't it? Unfortunately it is now mainstream, with the leader of the opposition now peddling this untruth and the actual government not far behind.

There have always been some houses with flag poles; Pevensey Bay near Eastbourne springs to mind as having quite a few. And there is a house opposite me which has a flag pole.
In such cases, what else is there to do but fly a flag? But such cases strike me as completely different to the trend which appears to have taken off in the last few months and in my view is rather sinister, especially if you are an immigrant or of immigrant stock.

Aren’t we all proud of our country?
Suggest you read the story of Weoley warriors which will help to educate.
So on one of the stories about the W Warriors, this was mentioned.
“ He referred to sharia law and said he was angry that Eid was widely celebrated in the city but not St George's Day.”
I find it strange that migrant communities manage, over time, to arrange things like the Notting Hill Carnival, St Patrick’s Day parades, Eid festivals etc…
Rather than causing tax payer money to be spent on removing flags and Graffiti, why don’t the W Warriors organise a nice traditional English fête?
Take all the profits from traditional activities and home produce, and put it into local charities.
I have seen a picture of the guys, no reason they couldn’t organise a tombola and a Morris Dancing competition, surely?

Incidents such as these are clearly going on throughout the country as this extract from a letter in the Guardian indicates. Sadly, racism in this country has gone mainstream.
"Last week in my small rural town, St George’s flags were erected from lamp-posts and crudely daubed on roundabouts and zebra crossings, while residents were subjected to “Sieg Heil” as a mob walked along the streets. Downing Street has put out a statement that patriotism is important, while Joanne Monk, the Reform UK leader of Worcestershire city council, also emphasised pride in the flag.
I have nothing against the flag per se, but when Nazi thugs use it to demonstrate and catcall, it morphs into something else entirely. As a Black person, I have been subject to abuse three times in the past fortnight. My 12-year-old child and his friend were called “paedos” at school – they are the only Black children in the class – and a friend’s child was called the N-word on the bus (this was before the summer recess). To be Black in the countryside at the moment is to have a target on your back.
There are real-world consequences of constantly demonising Black and Brown people in the media, racialising crimes and acting as if the most vulnerable people in our society – asylum seekers – are the reasons your energy bills are too high or you can’t afford your food shop."
I am very sorry to hear of those incidents you, your son and his friend have been subjected to. I wish decent people could do more to prevent it.

Patriotism (as defined in the Cambridge Dictionary) "the feeling of loving your country more than any others and being proud of it".
I think you are stretching the definition somewhat there to suit your point.
I cannot see how "putting the welfare of your country above the views of the individual. For example Brexit - can someone be patriotic if they still champion it? Knowing (and they all know it) the damage that it’s done to the country? I would suggest not." is anything other fitting the very definition you post.
