His work with the foundation and the local community was so special. Given us countless memories on the pitch. It cuts deep.

Burgess and Morsy leaving were really disappointing but in particular with Morsy you could understand from his point of view why a big move made sense. But losing Chaplin to me makes no sense at all. Still one of our best attackers, full of drive, capable of the unexpected, still a top Championship player. To my mind none of the new kids on the block have done anything like enough to take his place. Even on Saturday thought he was our best player in the first half looking to unlock a stubborn defence. Good luck to him, a superb ambassador for the game and by all accounts a really good guy. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

54 years old and Iโm in tears over this one. Iโve never been this upset about a player leaving. He was so much more than an ITFC player. He was the beating heart of our promotions. Our talisman, our shining star and such a clever player. I really hope he smashes it at Pompey.

A positive from a negative. If we donโt go up, he will be back

Football is a game of emotions, and itโs hard to really feel much of an emotional connection to this new bunch of randoms. Itโll come in time, but Chaplin still had a big role to play this season.

Probably along with Morsy and Burns, the heartbeat of everything we have achieved since the takeover. We will never see an Ipswich team like it again. Only thing for it now, though, is to move on and hope a very talented team for the level can discover the spirit and backbone it is going to need. [Post edited 1 Sep 22:11]

This. Gutted. McKenna has lost my respect, his man management should be tons better than this.

Iโm not convinced this new bunch will. It seems theyโve just been chucked together with no thought or planning. Players like Philogene, Greaves and Johnson just donโt seem to have the same spirit and heart.

100% this We have some very good players but we have zero evidence of a team. O Shea doesn;t look like a captain, Philogene such a talented footballer but just dones;t look right on our team, ditto Jack Clark Taylor, Mckenna likes him for some reason but is way off the standard. Jacob Greaves again a good player but has really struggled in a Town shirt. Sammie i like but seems so injury prone. Leif doesn't look the same player that champ season! We have seom serious issues if the news guys don't kick on. We look far closer to being a Luton than a Burnley and we've spent an obscene amount of money to be in that position. The only highlight this summer for me has been keeping Jens. I'm a bit meh about all the oother signings, no one overly excites me, i think the Norwegain is a massive gamble thta could backfire. We could have signed some proven champ pedigree, I look at COventry's side and think they are much stronger...how has that happened???
