It is a rallying call. That’s ok!

It is absolutely the right time for them to communicate and the theme is a new team will take time and experiences as a club, as players, as team, as fans to become battle hardened. I mean, that’s clear isn’t it for reasonable people.

But from various reactions some of our fans don’t seem to have come to terms with the significant financial strength we we relegated with compared to the 00’s that has to be set against the need to build a new squad better equipped to take on the PL next time we get there.

My main expectation is this higher quality base group takes less time to form a battle hardened group and can achieve goals this season, not next. But ultimately as fans, we have to wait for as long as it takes, don’t we?

I do agree. But if we don't go up a good proportion of this team might not be here next season..

Yes, but we have to start seeing some improvements soon. Its not all about the fans being unrealistic. Not meaning a 5 or 10 game winning streak, but dig out a win ugly, back to back wins, stop gifting goals away.... just keep us in contention for the play-offs and a steady improvement.
I think the fact we've got 2 last minute equalisers means we've still got some spirit in the squad. And I do think O'Shea and Greaves can cut out those errors and become a very good CB partnership. Just how those top 4 players can improve as well as how good Cajuste/Nunez are next to Matusiwa will dictate how good we are.
Early days, but I did expect us to start a bit better than what we have. We still have plenty of players still here from our PL days.

I don't think we have been as bad as people make out. Poor at Brum, but we were very short on numbers that night. Play them now and we win. Saints was ok, should have took our chances. 2nd half v Preston we were all over them like beans on toast, but we passed too much and didn't shoot enough. Their keeper didn't have much to do. 6 booking for them so they probably fouled us when we got dangerous. Played better v derby, gave away 2 soft goal from nothing. Once again their keeper wasn't tested enough. Again too much passing and not enough direct dribbling. 7 bookings for the visitors. Also Preston and Derby scored with 100% of shots on goal.

Theme of the season is teams are working very hard and are using up tactical fouls.

I’m the same, I have nothing against him, but I can’t listen to the level of corporate bullsht talk.

To start with I didn’t notice it, then Bloots mentioned it, now I can’t unhear it. When he said recently ‘it’s 1130 and already there are three things I’d do differently if given the chance’ I actually told the screen to fck off as I read it.

Have spoken to him in person, and there was non of that, just seemingly a really decent bloke. But the interviews bring out phrases I just can’t listen to.

We'll never find out, but it would be interesting to know what the club's true target is, and what they would actually consider to be acceptable this season.

The public face will always be that anything other than promotion is unacceptable, but I wonder whether being so far ahead of the original plan will serve to give McKenna more leeway?

I wouldn't be surprised if not getting promoted would be seen as acceptable, so long as the signs are there that KMc has built a team that can absolutely boss the division next season.

Perhaps this suggests that the video is not for the genuine fans like you and i. Maybe it is actually for the 3 lions to keep them in with what is going on?

Ashton is what he is. Do I want someone as driven as him running my club after the years of underinvestment and chaos? Yes.

Would I want to sit next to him on a long-haul flight? Probably not.

But it does seem to me he can't win. Lots of people saying "where's Ashton" over the past three months (when tbh I'd rather he was working on signings than giving interviews to the media) and now it's "can't stand the sound of him". I know it's not the same people saying both things but as a CEO there's not much else he can do.

From what Stuart Watson has put out about the video I think you are exactly right and this season is seen as getting the team together ready for automatics next season. Not something most of our fans will hear though

“A lot of the team we had suffered in League One together. For a lot of them, in their first six months, they didn’t win a lot or play very well. Then we had six months where we played pretty well but didn’t win as much as we would want to or need to get promotion. We then had two years of winning a lot, but with some bumps in the road. There were some question marks and tough periods along the way, but that all helped the group build that connection, bond, self-belief, confidence and trust. Now we need to go through that again."

I don't think you can really plan for next season in football. Tomorrow never comes, and I wouldn't have thought the club would be sitting there thinking this season is a write off. Its definitely true that such a level of change will take a while to click, and there's probably a job to temper expectations a little bit, but I can't see it being any easier to outpace the competition next season when you look at the clubs that will likely be coming back down. Right now Leicester are starring at a points deduction, Sheff United are in a mess and Saints are also in a period of significant change. We've got to make the most of these next 40 games and strike while the irons hot.

I think most reasonable fans can see the improvements. Granted, we were poor at Birmingham, but scraped a result. Since then, we've been better against Southampton, and then comfortably outplayed Preston and Derby. At times during the first half against Derby we were an absolute joy to watch.

I appreciate that performances mean nothing without results, but it is understandable why we haven't in the circumstances. I honestly think we'll be a totally different proposition after the international break.
