How big is the bloke who sits behind you? Does he qualify as a decent section of the fanbase?

Have you had a bang to the head or something?! Where have I suggested one bloke is a decent section of the fanbase?!

Well for starters (if you pardon the pun) you wouldn't start the Norwegian kid, who's had precisely zero minutes with us. And you've already said on the bench.

You say Azor is playing, Cajuste been playing, Nunez is fit... well not all of them can start.

A couple of the others have barely trained with the squad, so it would be madness to start them.

Unless, when you said "Throw every new signing in and get them playing" you didn't mean start them?!

This post EXACTLY reflects what I just said, yet you downvoted mine.

I was downvoting the phrase "you make a good point" ...because he doesn't. His point (that all the new players should be thrown in immediately) is bonkers in the nut.

Yeah his initial point doesn't really reflect the rest of the post to be fair.

I still think you're odd, but I kinda like that!

That's what you'd do in a computer game. Meanwhile, in the real world...

Why not in the real world? The attacking players have been very poor so far this season, why shouldn't some of the new players be given the chance to show what they can do from the start? If they continue to be so powder puff our chances of automatic promotion will disappear very quickly.

Players need to play for their place. If they have a poor game then there's definitely an argument that they should only make the bench for the next game. I would bench Hirst today, give everyone a chance to see what Azon can do, and give Hirst a wake-up call that he's not automatically a shoe-in to start every game.

I'd also start Akpom and give Egeli a decent amount of minutes off the bench.

Who's left not to select then flash

Azor is playing
Cajuste been playing
Nunez is fit
Akpom is ready Sammy is injured
Hirst not firing. Ivor is fit and ready
Mcateer fit and ready
Egeli on the bench

It's not really a computer game scenario is it?

Clarke not playing well. Philogene mixed
Johnson not been great
Sammy s is injured. Chaplin gone

If anything I'd say tonight is the perfect time to have them all on.

You seem to be working on the assumption that they're all measurably better than the alternatives for a start. Even if they're all fit, up to speed and integrated we might not see a line up with all of those starting, perhaps ever.

Ivan's got some good experience in the 2nd tier in Spain, but I'm not sure there's enough evidence at this stage that he'll be a successor to Hirst, I'd imagine they'll yin yang in the role but right now Hirst looks the clear starter.

With Nunez and Cajuste I make that an either / or for the most part, with the other coming on. 2 players who 'need their minutes managed' and are effectively competing for the same spot next to Matusiwa.

5 starters max from the new crop (Matusiwa, Cajuste OR Nunez, Akpom, Furlong, McAteer). More likely 4 tonight I reckon.

It was harder than you apparently realise. There was no pace on the ball.

😂😂oh give over

5 yards out, a big strong athlete who’s been using his neck muscles since he was 6/7/8 to head a ball.

Such a silly comment.

I suppose i wasn't being literal but more a case of starting the majority

Palmer
Furlong
Oshea
Greaves
Davis

Azor
Cajuste

Mcateer
Akpom
Philogene

Ivan

Leaving from new starts on bench
Egeli
Nunez

Think that's worthwhile doing

Hirst can then come on and be a finisher if needed

So every ball 5 yards out should be a goal, no exceptions?!
You're either suggesting he's cr@p at heading (despite strong neck muscles since 6/7/8) or he deliberately missed.

Your comment is way sillier than mine.

I've said I think he's wrong. With better service Hirst has proven to be very good. "Nah, he's sh!t" was his measured response (I'm paraphrasing), so we agree to disagree. I don't think he's been great this season (4 games in, with a massively changed and underperforming team as a whole) but I don't think he's been as poor as some have suggested.

I think you don't want to change too much, particularly when they haven't had a lot of time on the training ground together. But if someone has torn it up in training I would be adverse to starting them if they've already had some involvement in a game (I wouldn't start anypne who's had zero minutes).

I'd probably start Hirst and tell him to go hell for leather now he has a decent replacement to come on. Give their defence a right going over and soften them up for Ivan later.

I don't really know enough about Furlong yet, and Young didn't do a lot wrong when he started.

Hirst's worst enemy is Hirst, asking for the "9" shirt just heaps pressure on him and a fair bit of responsibility, his strike rate over the years has never been great and that is what a lot of fans judge any player on.

We need him to come good, it's in our best interests but he does need to "up it" a bit based on last couple of performances. I think he will start tonight but another below par showing certainly won't help his cause. So come on George bag a goal tonight and have a good performance.

I don't really understand the negativity around Hirst; it's as though he just arrived in the Summer for big money & hasn't scored in first 10 games.
He had a poor game against Derby, there's no argument on that, but he has proven himself to be an effective centre forward at Championship level, made a decent fist of the games he played in the Premier League, & he knows exactly how to play in the style & formation that the manager wants.
We only have 2 proper strikers in squad between now & January, both of whom have question marks over their longterm fitness, so I don't see why we'd be willingly forgetting everything that Hirst has done in a Town shirt, since he came in halfway through the L1 promotion season & galvanised us onto an incredible run. We'll need him to be physically & mentally strong over the coming months if we are going to be promoted come May.

The post you took time to downvote stats this

‘Of course, no striker scores 100% of his chances, but that was gifted to him on a plate.’

Your question answered before even having to ask it.

I’m suggesting nothing more than that chance was an excellent one to get us a goal from. I’d be amazed if he and his manager weren’t really disappointed with that outcome.

I’ve always thought Akpom could fill the 9 role, and think KM might start him there tonight to take some of the pressure off Hirsty, who might then come on with 30 minutes to go and bag second/third goals playing with more freedom, fingers crossed to secure our win 🤞

Of course. Somewhat predictably we seem to have gone on a journey from "Hirst has had a pretty quiet start to the season" to "Hirst has been poor/awful/shocking/atrocious".
