It is a free country, hence them being able to go and join a march organised by a vile far-right grifter, and hence people being able to give their opinion on people deciding to attend a march organised by a vile far-right grifter. Not sure where you think anyone's freedom is being curtailed?

This false free speech narrative that we’ve imported from the US is doing my nut in. There are endless examples of people complaining about free speech being banned or ‘cancelled’… by using examples of people literally exercising their right to free speech. WTF!? Either we’re getting a lot dumber as a society or I’m losing my marbles.

It's the weird idea that free speech means no consequences. The problem with free speech is everyone else has it as well.

The irony is that you have the likes of Vance wanging on about the threat to free speech in Europe while they are literally banning books from libraries, dictating the content that museums should curate, and financially extorting universities to behave as they want them to behave, which includes clamping down on some forms of peaceful protest. We're in full Orwell territory at this point, but some seem to be blind to it.

Ah, but is Orwellian the right term to use? Please explain your rationale for that term.

Anyone you know? on 15:23 - Sep 14 with 743 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Personally I find it great that they want to unite the multi-cultural kingdom of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland regardless of religion, skin colour and political beliefs. They must feel sad that there is so much popularity for it to be split from those in Northern Ireland who want a united Ireland instead, and those in Wales and Scotland (and even Cornwall and Yorkshire) who want independence.

French cheese, innit...would have to be flown into the country, as if it came over by boat they'd want it sent back

Anyone you know? on 12:20 - Sep 14 by MattinLondon | I apologise profusely for calling racist c**ts ‘racist c**ts’. From now on, people who attended far right marches, that were promoted by far right personalities and where far right people spoke, are all now to be labelled as ‘decent’. Hope that makes you feel better. |
To be fair, there’s no way the Neanderthals were saying hurty words about other people (people they don’t know) at their little Tommy march

Wasn't 1984 a book about Government censorship? Isn't banning books from libraries due to political views, controlling the content of museums for similar reasons, financially controlling what is taught/practised at universities and clamping down on selected forms of peaceful protest exactly that? I wouldn't go so far as to say we are "full Orwell territory" at present, but we are certainly further down that path than we were ten years or more ago.

It was an 'in joke' post referencing other posts on here over the weekend. Of course the situation is in Orwellian territory.
