Cobbold roof 19:23 - Sep 27 with 1846 views | Zx1988 | Two thoughts... 1) Looks in terrible nick, probably not helped by the fact that its ACM composition will hinder even anything as simple as giving it a lick of paint. I wouldn't be surprised if a heavy hailstorm would be enough to start knocking bits off it. 2) When it comes to the rebuild, are there any rules that stipulate that the away end must be under cover? I thought that the Pompey fans were able to make some decent noise today, probably helped by the roof. May as well take away the acoustics, and make away fans sit in the rain if we can get away with it. [Post edited 28 Sep 10:29]

The away end at Fratton Park didn't always have a roof.

I can't remember if the away section at St James's Park has a roof, I was either suffering from too much vertigo or eyestrain to notice...

The pitch level looks so much better now, but the drone shots on Sky games make the roofs of both Cobbold and West Stand look like stuck in the 90's

The away end at old Ninian Park had a roof, but it was bvgger all use with the rain coming in sideways through the open end. First match in their new ground, it poured, but the away fans were pretty much the only ones under shelter.

Although asbestos is an incredibly resilient material so will possibly last forever if allowed! With regards to away fans, stick them up in the corner once the new stand is built and corners infilled, that should help to reduce the impact of their noise.

It's probably a question of access more than anything else. I was thinking yesterday that a nice black bituminous coating would make it look so much better, but then you've got to get around the fact that you'd probably go straight through it if you stood on it these days. Probably explains why the birds nests and grass haven't been removed either.

Just remove it and replace it with shower curtains. That’ll do it! Nice and bright too. Angle them so any water tips over the away fans to give them a truly memorable match day experience. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Blackburn fans will be right at home with that.

the front being below the level of the pitch iirc, as you couldnt work out where the ball was once it got past the half way line, which had comedy value as you were perpetually thinking the ball was in the net when it was still 20+yards away
Cobbold roof on 15:36 - Sep 28 with 605 views | stonojnr | suspect when the time comes, the away end will move to behind a goal, as it will be a alot easier to manage crowd segregation then the current setup

Swindon and Accrington both have roofless away ends, though Accrington also have covered seats for away fans, as well as the open terrace.

Did you design Crawley's 'stadium'?
