Popped up on my YT feed!

Wanted to throw up, games gone.

Why would you even talk to them divs, that’s the entire point, we don’t have to, it’s what makes this game the real, we don’t work, talk or interact with each other, EVER. Well that was the way of it when I still lived in Ipswich.

I hope we crush them! Blue Monday staff has gone way down in my estimation!

Exactly, it’s never just a game with them is it, that’s the point.

On here if we don’t win, yes, that’s because it’s a Ipswich forum.

Just like it will be meltdown on whatever forum they post on when we actually beat them.

i think knowing people who support the budgies enhances the rivalry rather than desanitise it, if you don't have mates/colleagues etc who are budgies, who are you going to laugh at for the next 6 months?

If someone took a Norwich supporting friend into the North Stand on 15 Sep 2002 was the game technically gone 23 years ago?

Asking on behalf of a friend... Not a Norwich supporting one.

This is why Counago is better than Kuqi... No one had to listen to their mate going on about a Norwich win for the car journey back to Cambridge.

Yeah, well Ipswich Norwich has always been a Suffolk Norfolk thing as well, that is what makes it a bit unique. Of course some cross the divide, I’ve ever only known one but he just had to put up with it because he lived in Ipswich, I certainly wouldn’t want a contact list full of them!

It’s only football mate. There’s more to life than rivalry with other human beings.

I love the back and forth, but we’re not 14.

I apologise to anyone finds the below offensive,

But maybe you've hi the nail on something Swailsey

When i was rocking up to PR with my season ticket game after game, I couldn't wait for the derby matches, and had that desperation of beating them because they were scum

However as I got older it just became another fixture and tbh that's how I really feel about it nowadays, if we in we get 3 points, if we lose we don't. I don't really care about the 16 year stuff, or the fact it's nodge, the not getting 3 points would annoy me just like it did against Bristol.

Maybe this is a really bad stereotype, but perhaps the ipswich nodge thing is mainly for those of a certain age?

a niche perspective

Hilarious

Let’s make the whole day nice and warm and cuddly for visiting players and fans
There you are
Is this much better for you ?
You are great

Where has anyone said "make the whole day nice and warm and cuddly" for ANYONE, never mind the players? We're talking about a podcaster here, nothing to do with the players or the fans in the stadium.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I do wonder how that could have been enjoyable for him or why anyone would even agree to do so. Imagine being in the Barclay or the Snake Pit for a derby? Pure hell, in amongst it being able to show any signs that you’re a fan of the opposition,

That actually used to be in our end more back in the day, I remember seeing them getting thrown when I was kid.

agreed on the full contact list, but a few add spice (especially if they're more like ullaa than the more ridiculous of those 2 podcasters!)

He managed to contain himself when they scored. We were right at the back. So for the penalty, no one clocked him not celebrating. I didn't, too busy jumping up and down.

We would have been around 16/17 at the time. It was more of an occasion for him to see his team, which he could still enjoy.

Of course there’s more to life than a football match or a derby game. I just push back that it’s just another game, it’s clearly not for most people and as long as people behave, I don’t think it should be majorly sanitized or diluted. Historic rivalries in all sports are what makes sports great through history and tradition.

Let’s be honest the club very much leaned into it with the Nunez stuff and will do again for the hype train leading into Sunday.

Ashton’s photo shaking Nunez hand, did he do that for all signings? It’s a fun part of sports.

We’ve also only really played them a handful of times over the last decade and they shut up about the long ending run!

I specifically said “make things unpleasant for their players and fans”, you told me to go to school, or something equally constructive
Anyway, I’m not getting sucked into one of your petty arguments

Terry Butcher had a bit of cuddle with that weed Chris Sutton once.

OK, he didn't bother taking his hands out of his pockets, but he helped him have a little lie down.

I don't know. I feel like pre 70s it must have been less of a rivalry. My grandparents and their friends would do things like (positively) look out for Norwich and Colchester results.

When the grandchildren (my generation in the 90s) or our parents said something derogatory about them, we'd get friendly pushback from them "don't say that" with a smile, elongated "no", etc.

I type in Google when did the rivalry become a thing and it says from the very first game and I'm thinking, so everyone randomly thought the game was more important than others? Doesn't seem plausible.

I guess my thing here is history and tradition is something that is in some ways invented and retold in the present, without much care for the actual historic nature of things.

Like Brits complaining about Americans calling football soccer from association football. But we used to call it that up until at least the 60s. It's all over the footage of us winning the league from commentators.

I do agree that it is more of a game than others. But I don't feel Ben going on a podcast with rival fans, presumably to talk about the game and rivalry, is sanitizing or diluting it. It just feels more in keeping with how my grandparents generation would approach the game.

This whole thread is about a podcaster being friendly to Norwich podcasters.
I think you've missed the point somewhat (and have then made a straw man). No-one has we should make things easy for their fans or players inside the stadium.

Look out for Norwich results?!

Maybe I do need a history lesson then! That’s a new one on me.

I’ve put my hand up and said I was a bit OTT earlier but I think a lot of it is probably stems from my dislike of the clips I’ve ever seen of TNC over the socials, which has been more than ever since that transfer.

I wouldn’t want to associate myself with that channel but that’s just me! Just like the TNC guys, he can do whatever he wants and I generally find him knowledgeable to listen to, if a bit too balanced as a fan sometimes lol.

I like the passion, just not the childish idiocy like the clips you see from some of their lot.

There’s a Southampton guy that during the last few years (Martin I think his name is). He’s popped up a bit on my feeds. I guess as we’ve been around them last few seasons and played them for first time in ages regularly. Not that I really care about Southampton but he’s decent, goes to games constantly and has sharp opinions. Says some good things about us as a club.

End of the day if you out yourself out there, a lot people are going to have opinions on your opinions and seems like there is money to be made these days, everyone is doing it.

My dear old dad used to work up in Thetford many years ago, and became friendly with a lot in the Larling Angel. just off the A11 - who unsurprisingly were all budgie pricks.

Anyway, he went to 3 derbies at Carrot Rd, in the Upper Barclay, in the 90s, with them all. We lost them all (probably) and John Wark got sent off 6 times or something.

I remember asking him at the time how he could stick it, and he just went for the beers. Honestly can''t think of anything worse. Dad was fond of a drink though.

Anyway, Ben Bloom is fine, and there's rather too much acquiescence on this thread towards that lot being down here. I hope each and every one of them has a dreadful day Sunday, truly awful, all of them.

'Shake Hands on Derby Day', indeed.

Fck em, budgie vermin.
