Uefa gives ‘reluctant’ approval for domestic games to be played abroad 19:21 - Oct 6 with 1105 viewsMark

A disgraceful decision. I hope our new football regulator bans this for any UK clubs.

An utter disgrace.

Powers that be won't be happy until it's the NFL.

On a related note, how much better is the championship to the PL? Proper football.

The only good thing in the PL is that smaller teams are now finding that elite young coaches with teams with work ethic can beat the bloated big clubs.

If they said no they would be sued and legally they don't have a case.

Truly impaired.

At least two of our goals yesterday would have had pathetically long stops for VAR checks. The unbridled joy of knowing immediately that each goal would stand was immense.

No case?

Domestic football means football played in a specific country.

Surely if it's a domestic league then that means it has to be played in that specific country otherwise it's not domestic

Exactly that. It's such a contrast with the VAR horrorshow of the PL.

No i've simply read what UEFA said. There is nothing in the rules to stop it and the threat of a super league has them over a barrel. I don't like it anymore than you.

Of course they do. They are a private association and can have such rules as they choose.

Like they could ban clubs who choose to play 'domestic' games outwith their home country from UEFA competitions...., aye right!

The purposed Super League should’ve been allowed to happen but only if the English clubs weren’t allowed to be in the domestic leagues. They then would be free to basically charge hundreds of pounds to overseas fans who would have been valued higher than its traditional support.

By forcing them to stay, and then being fearful that they’ll leave, has simply given the bigger clubs much more power.

That’s why financial fair play (or whatever it’s called) was introduced. Simply a way for the smaller clubs to know and keep their place.

Yes, the threat of a Super League has UEFA over a barrel. But that doesn't stop parliament/ the government from empowering the regulator to make decisions as to where league games can occur. Parliament can make primary legislation (which obviously UEFA cannot), and that legislation may allow ministers to make regulations under the primary legislation which prescribe categories of matter in respect of which the regulator may make decisions.

Remember when Wimbledon decided they wanted to play their matches in Milton Keynes for example? The regulator categorically will be able to stop that. I would think it an oversight if the regulator is not empowered to prevent individual games from happening in random corners of the globe. If they so decide. Which of course they may, or may not. But this debate is about whether someone has a legal case or not. And that depends on what the law says. Which you haven't read.

Bournemouth v Burnley, New York Stadium, that'll pull the punters in.

What amazes me is NFL team give up a home game to play abroad, they only play eight home games a season.

It'll never happen to real football, but then again, come back here in 10 years time, hmm.

Playing devil’s advocate, this unfortunately has always been the direction of travel and the slow Americanization of our sport for some time now.

We ourselves have been enormous beneficiaries of American money pouring in. And you even have Americans now at our dear Neighbours up the road.

I said to friends at the time brightpath bought their stake - I saw that as bullish for ITFC but bearish overall for English football when you’ve now got so many EFL clubs even drawing extended US interest.

I’m very much against games on the road etc but, if you dance with the devil…

Championship is way WAY better. Sooner the showbiz brands go the better.

Cos be under no illusions - it's still rigged. No matter what Forest, Bournemouth and Brentford did early doors last year, in the end you still ended up with pretty much what you'd expect in the "superleague by any other name" places in the end...

Exactly this.

VAR getting involved to re referee incidents over micro details that no one even appealed for can't be what anyone wants.
