Spent 200m. Check
McK nearly went to Brighton and Palace. Check
One of the lowest points scored in last seasons top flights across Europe. Check
4 wins in 40 odd games. Check

I'm only guessing but I suspect I'm not far off.

Recouped £80m - check. £200m for two seasons I presume or are we calling it for the one season to make it sound more?
Value of current players unknown - check. Let’s say they’re all worthless and ignore the £80m received so we can say the club wasted £200m. Sounds dramatic.
4 wins in 38 games in the hardest league in Europe with the smallest budget in that division - check
McK considered offers to move to CP and Brighton but we don’t know the details other than it was before 2024/25 - check. And he didn’t go. Check
Ipswich could have trousered the cash and surrendered rear end in the air before the season started as Darkhorse’s lot did the last time they went to the PL, but instead gave it a go - check.
Every team bar us had a Premier League infrastructure including scouting and including LC and Saints, players - check

In other words, context and seeing a fuller picture is everything. But if people prefer Darkhorse’s laser like, analytical, positive approach, that’s up to them.

I am a bit curious to how the culture did change after that. Did they start using disposable cups or just forego having tea and coffee?

He’s done a great job for us sure, but I’d hate to work for him. He comes across as a complete corporate cheese roll - his words here could easily have been delivered by David Brent.

Not a Mummy. Don't have short arms.

You never know until you actually work with somebody. At various times I worked for people with horrendous reputations and they were actually ok and in two cases excellent.

But I know what you mean. I’ve met and dealt with a number of Brent-esque type people and played quiet games of bullsht bingo with like minded souls.

Life isn’t a popularity contest though and overall, he does a great job. Does he make mistakes? Hope so. Those who don’t make errors tend to be people that don’t do anything.

“What does Mark do, I roll up my sleeves and start scrubbing”. Heavens knows where we’d be now if he’d asked someone else to wash up the dirty mug he found.

Has anyone made the obligatory Axel joke yet?

My guess is that he dumbs it down a bit. Just to get the basic messaging across to thousands of people of different levels.
Bet my bottom quid, that he's a different animal behind the scenes. And away from the cameras..

I'd love to work for him. He's very positive, up beat and an incredibly successful man. And that usually rubs off on those that want it to..
And those that don't want to pull in the same direction. Generally get shown the door. Which I also like. Takes balls to make those kind of decisions. And sends the right message.

Apparently he found a cupboard full of all the club's disposable cups when he sacked Paul Cook.

Don't be ridiculous. We're the second finest team the world has ever seen - after the 1970 Brazil team.

Yes, I agree. Nothing would have got done at Portman Road if he led only with sound bites or corporate speak, and you can guarantee that McKenna would have left us by now if he didn’t have any respect for Ashton.

My guess is he doesn't generally speak to 90 % of those who work at the club. He has people to do that for him.

I think this is unlikely. He’s into modern management philosophies, and a dated, isolationist, ivory tower mentality does not align with that.

I suspect he does. I’ve no doubt he takes the trouble to ask how they and their families are, problems, thoughts, all that jazz. He really doesn’t have to be the slightest bit interested in the response as long as he looks them in the eye and doesn’t show it.

Why? Because a minute or two, simple thank you’s, good mornings, see you tomorrows cost very little and gain a lot. Curtesy is easy, costs nothing but a few seconds of time and is actually motivational, despite it being deeply unfashionable at the moment. As an obvious networker, that is something I suspect he does internally ans well ans externally automatically.

Whilst i abhor corporate speak and bullsht bingo, it’s something I did shamelessly with work colleagues and people who worked for me.

Ashton is without doubt a positive force. He evidently cares, works his socks off and has delivered us along with Mckenna (one of the finest managerial appointments ever btw) an incredible few years.

He is absolutely David Brent coded and I think he could have done a bit better in recent transfer windows but they don't outweigh all the good he has done.

On the Town in 5 video for the Norwich game, the bench cam reaction shots for our first two goals include Ashton at the top of the screen. His reaction to both, especially Philogene’s goal (at 7:35) is tremendous.

There's loads to be proud of at our club... Not just the success of the Men's team..

We've got a Women's team that is progressing and successful. And a team to be proud of.
We've got a fantastic foundation, doing great work around the community.
The Veterans coffee mornings.
More youngsters attending matchdays than we've seen in decades, safeguarding our future fan base.
An Academy that's on the rise.. (Check out Phil's piece on the Internationals. Great to hear about the real youngsters representing their countries)

These are just a few of the "extra plates" that needed spinning. And Ashton has overseen all of this. And then some.. Bringing people together in the process..

I am so proud of our Football Club.. And everyone involved.
And I'm buzzing for what lies ahead, too.
