Sometimes you lose tight championship games 22:04 - Oct 17 with 1293 viewsJakeITFC

Today we created a lot of chances and gave away a lot of chances against a team that are now top of the league away from home. Would have been nice to score a penalty and not concede a ridiculous own goal but we did and we lost against a solid championship side.

The reaction is based on bad results and performances that have come before, today isn’t anything to worry about in isolation.

You cannot defend like that in any game. Insanely disorganised.

That wasn't tight.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I've just made a very similar post!

We created a lot of chances? I don’t remember their keeper making too many saves.

Exactly this. He didn't apart from a penalty save. He really didn't have to work particularly hard especially second half. Palmer on the other hand made four very good saves in the space of ten minutes.

Does it not concern you Jake how open we are and how we gift chances and possession in our own half?

Tonight we were as open in central midfield as I can remember.

You weren't concerned at how open we were then? Or how much space our midfield stood off Hackney to just run the show? Passive in the extreme. It's got to stop or the top two is off the table.

They're top because they beat us.

If we won we'd have been 2 points behind them

They'd been on a bad run until tonight.

We created a few chances.
Palmer saved about 6 first half and more 2nd.

Tonight's performance is a worry imo

We were the in form team but didn't manage the game well. That's the concern.

We went all gungho and gave no care for what happened when we lost the ball

The particularly bad bit for me was our sluggishness after HT when Boro came flying out and we just didn't put up enough resistance to it. 2-0 down at that point was always going to be difficult.

They were always going to get chances and we'd need big blocks/saves which we got, but they get a slightly fortuitous goal after a pen save and a header cleared off the line for us where if either of those go in then the rest of the game is probably very different.

Think we are too passive and slow in general, hopefully that will improve as we go on, but a bit silly for some to completely dismiss Boro's role in the match tonight.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Yup, centre midfield basically non-existent tonight (although I think that’s been the case of lots of games in the last few years), Kipre has had a stinker, Philogene and Walle Egeli may as well not have played and yet we’ve still given top of the league a game where we’ve missed a penalty and scored a terrible own goal.

We are a million miles away from the finished article but today is not the performance of worry this season.

It’s more because they didn’t put 11 behind the ball Jakey, not good.

I thought we were poor, not sure how people are taking a tone of positives from that. Lapses in concentration, not taking advantage of opportunities and didn’t
control the middle at all.

We had openings and didn’t have composure again. Poor night after a 12 day break, also slow again. It was all a bit crap.

Yep, could've easily gone the other way.

Just one of those nights. Money doesn't guarantee you winning every game or even playing well every game.

All that - score the pen we probably win. All the big boys were no more than 5/10 - when they can be arsed away we will be fine - Boro were avarage… helped by Hirst and Kipre arguably their best players…

Well looking at the teams that have been promoted automatically since parachute payments came into play, it for sure helps. We are just lucky this might be a year that 85-90 points does it.

Stop excuse making, this was a chance to make a statement and it wasn’t good enough.

We will be fine but we are very lucky this championship sucks.

Which would make up for us having to get 90+ points just to keep up on our two most recent promotion seasons.

Meh. I can guarantee there will be some worried people around the club given where we are and how poor we often look after 1/5th of the season gone. I’d be worried myself if there weren’t. Let’s not dress it up. We’re not where we want to be. Obviously there’s time, but Zelma and the team need to do better given the expectations.

Honestly id feel more relaxed knowing they were concerned rather than allowing a free pass. A free pass leads to complacency. imo.

Yep, exactly that, a lot of fishing for positives sometimes IMO, when giving the situation and contextually our squad, at this stage of the season, we should be miles ahead of that.

In terms of performance, control and ultimately result.

KM has won as many matches as burley did when he got sacked.

Again not saying KM out and again far from it

However it is not surprising there are some who aren't happy with how this season is going.

We’ll batter a tone of teams this year (as we should) and people we get excited but tbh these kind of games are the ones that prove to me something is a little off. It’s mid October and we’ve lost the same amount as Burnley did in the entire season. We are two injury time pens away from losing 4 already by mid October.

I’m just pleased the league isn’t good this year and we can probably recover. Disappointing.
