Plenty of non-RV seats available for Charlton 08:54 - Oct 20 with 1653 viewsLA_Tractor_Boy

I get the argument that we need to replace the Cobbold Stand so that Portman Road can be a non-match day venue, but we don't need more standard or hospitality seats in the Championship except for the biggest games.

I know we can probably sell out 40,000 seats in the PL, but despite the ambition of our current owners, there is obviously no guarantee we can establish ourselves in the PL.

We all remember the Marcus Evans days of playing in a half empty stadium and it's a bit soul destroying for players and fans.

The estimated cost of Crystal Palace's new Main Stand now exceeds £200M. Are Gamechanger ready going to get a return on their investment for this sort of outlay?

I would suggest a Tuesday night, on TV with another home game 4 days later isnt a guide to whether we need a bigger capacity.

"I get the argument that we need to replace the Cobbold Stand so that Portman Road can be a non-match day venue"

"Are Gamechanger ready going to get a return on their investment"

If we spend £150m on a New Cobbold and we add 3-4000 seats, the ground can operate as a 362 day a year venue.

If the ground improvements, plus the training ground improvements, show that our owners are prepared to invest and so convince one player in every window to sign who otherwise might not have.

If it improves the crowd sound in the ground and therefore improves the atmosphere and makes it more difficult for away teams to play at Portman Road.

With all that, if it takes 15 years to amass £151m is it then a good investment? Good investments are not always financial.

Returns on investment are not always directly related to cash returns. You affect the things you can, and that is your home stadia.

Majority of the non restricted view that are still available are likely to be season ticket resales.

We’ve spent £200 million on players.

Is the number of players really the issue. More than the quality of them?

We’ve spent more money on EFL standard players, than the likes of Bournemouth spend on genuine world class players.., typically £12 million it seems buys you a ready made world class striker, left back, and various other.

It’s less than we spent on any of Greaves, Clarke, OShea, Ogbenne, Macateer .., Sammie etc etc

Signing another player doesn’t seem to be an issue, value and quality very much does.

I’d rather we invested money in our off the field people to replace or compliment what we have. Either way. We’ve been a long long way from elite and the required standard, in that context, any conversation about capacity is redundant and a distraction, we won’t ever be established in the prem the way we operate off the pitch, we aren’t good enough, we aren’t even close.

See Burnley, Leeds, Brighton, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham etc (even Sunderland).

We need to be as good or better. We need to stop pretending winning a game in the EFL makes us elite and world class!!! It doesn’t. And we’re struggling to even reach those levels.

Expand the ground.., but let’s have it straight, it won’t be needed while Mark Ashtons WBA address book is the backbone of our talent ID.

I won’t dig our Norwegian star ouy .., but he cost 50% more than Bournemouth’s French 19 year old who already looks premier league levels.

Not an outlier is it. Spending 50% more for half the quality!

How anyone thinks that’s what elite is genuinely puzzles me. That’s the minimum standard too the be elite. Not Man City, just enough to be established at that level, you have to at least match that.

We’ve wasted a generational opportunity. When else will we spend £200 million in new players.

We’ll never have a league one P&L and that opportunity again. We’ve been wasted hundred million at least on players that won’t ever make that level.

I was delighted to pick up three of them together in the SAR last night. It's half term in a few places as well which will affect people's ability to go to the game.
Love PR under the lights and it'll be the first night game there for my two.
Excellent stuff.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

The lies are a given. Interestingly there’s an idiot with a username of Tractor Guy who posts similarly negative and largely inaccurate sheeite on fb. Almost certainly the same guy. Just today he’s posting a comment on the official FB ITFC page with the same 200m drivel. Almost as if he’s not a Town fan.

These posts are nothing but baiting, and end up derailing good discussions. Putting the poster on ignore may mask their drivel for many, but unless everyone does so, it still results in disrupting the thread.

I think this is the key point. The capacity is slightly secondary here. Even if we decide not to increase capacity by one single seat, the stand still needs replacing. I do wonder whether there is the possibility of rebuilding the stand with a very slight increase, but with the option to perhaps fill in the corners to increase capacity further if/when we are an established PL club?

A forum is for everyone’s views, that’s not to say you agree with them, but you can’t really go trying to get someone banned just because they don’t hold your views. It’s what a forum is about,so people can make their own case otherwise there would be no point to forums at all.

Yes probably right, unfortunately as Ashton himself said. New stand has to be operational and open 365 to justify paying for itself. The 50 year old stand argument doesn't work. Look at Barnsleys main stand. I would suggest it's way older than the Cobbold.

Another thing to consider. If we don't make it back to the premier league this season, I suspect ticket sales will drop even further, hence the season ticket waiting list which I guess the club have put in place to gauge demand should we fail to get promoted.

This is the first time it has not yet been resold.

There's a country mile difference between having different views and trolling/baiting others. I'm sure you can understand the difference.

A poster that is truly interested in discussing opinion will engage in debate when challenged. This poster refuses to do that, and just ignores any attempt to debate with them. Many of us have tried to engage them over false claims, but to no avail. That demonstrates an intent at mischief and discourse, not a serious attempt at debating with others - and these do not contribute to a forum such as this.
