A small positive regarding Palmer being out 15:29 - Oct 24 with 1029 viewsGlasgowBlue

I noticed that Walton distributes the ball far more quickly. Whilst He isn't the same stot stopper as Palmer we may see some more break away attacks in the team. He threw one out on Tuesday which reminded me of our attack that lead to a goal at Derby in League One.

When Hladky was playing as a sweeper keeper it was easy to forget that Walton isn't the worst with his feet. Myself included.

Agreed he is decent enough at his distribution, but i have a real concern with his shot stopping, in particular any shots on the ground.

He's in goal for the next few weeks though, so hopefully he grabs his opportunity.

As much as he might struggle with low shots, he brings many positives that Palmer doesn't... His distribution is better and he also is very dominant in the air, which I'm sure will help!

He’s no more than a decent mid table championship keeper at best unfortunately, which I guess is what we are.
With all the recruitment in the summer our keeper department being weak kind of got overlooked

He's often struggled on his first appearance back for us after a break, Liverpool game aside where I thought he was good but that was the first game of the season so a bit different. He looked similarly rusty on Tuesday. But generally, he's a solid enough keeper at this level and his use of the ball is decent. Our playing out from the back went up a notch when Hladky came in for him, but we started playing that way with super Christian Walton in goal back in League 1 and he's more than good enough in possession.

Someone I never thought would see the field again in a Town shirt after the brief cameo against Huddersfield on promotion day. Yet there he is tipping the ball over the bar from Cole Palmer and have mini runs in the team again for another two seasons in a row.

He clears the halfway line consistently too which Palmer doesn't.

Walton was brought in when Hladky wasn't deemed good enough. At the time, he was regarded as a Championship GK that we'd somehow tempted into L1. He would have been playing in the Championship bar injury which meant Vas got back in - the keeper that wasn't deemed up to it compared to CW.

Walton has also played in the prem for us and I know many people were deeming him too good to sit on the bench.

Now he's actually in the sticks in the league that according to most should be the league he's in, and so many people are writing him off. I don't understand Town fans at all sometimes.

My worry is - what happens if Walton now picks up an injury? Can't possibly rely on Button alone surely? Would we be able to get an emergency loan?

Rusty maybe, but he still made two very good stops - one in each half.

I don't think him replacing Palmer is going to prevent us from improving if everyone else pulls their fingers out!

Whilst I agree that CW has many positives to his game, I don't agree that he is dominant in the air. He and Palmer are prone to stay rooted to the line, particularly at corners. The dominant keeper that we have on the books is Muric.

Walton definitely isn't dominant in the air. Better than Hladky, who knew his limits so didn't bother coming for crosses, but certainly not great. Remember the Charlton 4-4?

Agree regarding Muric.

Henry Gray has been recalled from his loan (at Braintree).

The people who deems him to good for bench warming and the people who don’t feel he’s good enough for the Champ, are DIFFERENT people.

That’s why I hate posts that refer to ‘fickle’ fans or infer as such. It’s a forum with differing opinions not a bunch of people who constantly change their mind (on the whole)

Is that why we signed him, a panic Button?
