As I see it it's a question of truth. Are we happy that our national broadcaster deliberately mislead viewers ?
What should have happened was as soon as the bosses found out about it it should have been retracted and those responsible sacked. Then an apology made.
Instead the BBC chose to try to brush it under the metaphorical carpet. The folly later compounded by misc high ups trying to justify their actions. While they have offered a mealy mouthed statement they clearly dont consider they did much wrong.
Their greatest mistake of course was to try to pull the tail of the biggest dog on the planet. He will turn and bite back resulting in all of us having to pick up the bill.
The last fortnight has been one of the worst for Trump in his second term.
Epstein files have been the catalyst. But wider issues are coming home to roost.
From funding Argentina while US farmers are on their knees due to tariffs, to his middle east peace miracle falling apart as Gazans get bombed and settlers act appallingly, to Putin causing havoc whilst Trump fawns, to Venezuela actions, to major issues with healthcare.
The BBC story provided by the Telegraph and fuelled by media rival barons across the UK market has been a blessing for Trump, it allow him to flood the zone and distract
But the US media including right wing voices are focussing on other issues… and the ‘defection’ of Marjorie Taylor Green has been quite the story… she’s shining a light not just on the economy and medical care… but the Epstein files AND how vindictive the Trump machine is…
Maybe she’ll kiss the ring… but there’s a shift happening and the recent poll results are frightening the GOP.
Back to your point - Trump has done so much wrong that the BBCs coverage has remained relatively restrained - unlike like CNN, Al Jazeera, MSNBC… etc. yes they dropped the ball here. But the evidence that Trump DID insight those riots is damning and overwhelming. The BBC need to take action, but being sued by someone who’s corruption, dessimation of the justice, health and scientific arms of the US state is incredibly damaging is laughable!

I agree with most of your post. With regard to your last paragraph though, we all know what a scumbag Trump is and what he has done. But that only makes what the BBC did worse. They didn’t need to do it.
They didn’t ’drop the ball’. It was a deliberate act to mislead which has led to a debate that has overridden what Trump is and has done. At best the BBC was beyond stupid and exceeded what a public broadcaster should be doing. Ahh, well, it’s Trump is no excuse.
And there is a possibility that you and I will have to pay for it. Literally. As you point out, it’s laughable, but it’s possible. How, I’m not sure, not knowing how international law works. It might also bring the end of the BBC.
Oh come on Glassers. That's a little harsh. She had a really good go at getting the pork markets sorted. Credit where it's due mate!
According to my one gay friend, the phrase "opening up pork markets" has become a snigger-snigger-wink-wink moment. The gays see it as the parting of the bum cheeks ready for action.
I'm gonna get banned - I know it.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

But my point was not about Trump. It was about the fact that the BBC deliberately manipulated a broadcast to give a misleading programme and then tried to bury it. For such an organisation to abuse the trust of the people is unforgivable.
Although, I wonder if the Epstein distraction stuff that this is part of will backfire. There is growing resentment from MAGA nuts and normal people alike that he's lied so much etc.
Hopefully the ongoing wrangling over the files and people starting to hint more openly how guilty Trump is of lying, will ultimately damage him more and more.
It’s not a surprise to see you downvoting budgie, but downvoting facts? Come on now, smarten us up.
