| Another lenient sentence for the political elites on 14:06 - Nov 21 with 1672 views | Plums | I imagine it's so lenient because he undertook his treachery whilst being very patriotic indeed just like the rest of the Reform cabal. By that, I mean the ones who know what they're doing rather than the simpletons who are just along for the ride and think they're sticking it to the man. In these cases, you can (never) hear the howls for the 'community leaders' to come out and say something can you? | |

Might be entertaining to go to the Mail or Telegraph website and see just how buried down the page this story is - probably still higher than the fellow traitor Johnson being castigated over Covid. That's probably hidden in the runners for the 3:30 at Chepstow. One thing for sure, these pricks and their supporters have no right to lecture anyone on patriotism again. But they will. Because they have no shame. [Post edited 21 Nov 14:41]

I got curious. It is front and centre of the main Mail landing page. Effectively the 2nd biggest domestic (well Welsh) story after the death of Mani and only otherwise behind Ukraine. Meanwhile a spokesman for Reform said: "Mr Gill’s actions were reprehensible, treasonous and unforgivable. We are glad that justice has been served and fully welcome the sentence Nathan Gill has received."

Odd, I've just gone and had a look myself, and it's lower than Ukraine Mani Strictly A story about Mounjaro Selling on TikTok Murder sentence Netflix show Physical Asia Kelly Brook in a bikini Secrets of getting the "Cheshire face" - whatever the hell that is Rachel Reeves hinting at what caused her to cry in the Commons Victoria Beckham's rarely seen brother being in a family photograph A story about Ozempic London apparently being Sodom and Gamorrah And then this. Which admittedly is not as low as I thought, but I guess Mr Algorithm decides what stories are where, where you are in the country, if you're on the mobile or desktop site etc etc etc [Post edited 21 Nov 15:02]

| Another lenient sentence for the political elites on 16:20 - Nov 21 with 1335 views | lowhouseblue | is it lenient? ten and half years is a serious sentence befitting a very serious crime. the max sentence under the bribery act is ten years, and the judge has gone beyond that by deciding that for two of the offences the sentences won't run concurrently. it's a very serious offence, but ten and half years doesn't seem disproportionately low to me. | |

Very interesting how that's resurfaced from a decade ago, the evidence was damning then and now the response is very different. Dragging out Jenkyns et al. to insist he's not racist somewhat misses the point.

It's now proven and shown the party is compromised by a hostile nation. Regardless of who it is, the security services should be involved to ensure the Russians are cleaned out of our government.

Quite a rotten choice, risk Russian involvement in Government or have to endure the cravenly noisesome bleating if they get banned...

Hmm, when you put it like that it’s not so easy is it? We certainly need to be doing something about this. Caroline Lucas and a couple of others are going through the courts to try and force a proper investigation. That’s nuts. They shouldn’t have to; Parliament should be all over this and the former reluctance to release the unredacted Russian Interference report. We also need better regulation around foreign funding in politics and lobbyist funding in general. Parliament needs to clean up its act if they want to save what little trust is left in politics (and it may be too late already).

we have secret services and this case demonstrates that they are effective. if there is evidence they'll bring further charges. i suspect that if they had evidence they wouldn't hesitate to prosecute reform and its leaders. the usa over the past 5 years demonstrates that using judicial and quasi-judicial processes against opponents for what appears political reasons back fires.

I certainly wouldn't want to justify Farage, but I am sure there are a lot of photos like this of him with people he doesn't know. It is also noteworthy that the issue appears to be that Gill didn't declare the gifts. He was welcome to make the statements/questions but not to receive personal payments for doing so. Anyone who honestly thinks Reform's interests are the best interests of this country is badly mistaken.

Perhaps you could restate your first sentence 'We have secret services and in this case they demonstrated that a successful case could be brought.' It is naive to think that this will always be the case, or that this type of interference is all that is being perpetrated by hostile foreign states.
