When Sky flashed the rule up, It seemed that the point was that it was a slap to the head. If e.g. he had punched him in the stomach, could he have been booked, or is it a red or nothing?


Hands to the head is supposed to be a red unless the force is minimal. It clearly was minimal & in any case, a higher bar would be imposed by any sane referee if it's blue on blue. But the silly ref couldn't wait to get out his red card, VAR decided not to intervene & Gary Neville couldn't stop defending the referee.

Now I've seen multiple replays of it, it looks an even worse decision.
If that's a red, refs need to start sending off five players every game.

Neville didn't defend the referee. He clearly disagreed with him.
