We are battling in the play-off places, not fighting relegation.
If we continue our recent sequence of form - WDWDWL - until the end of the season, we would be on 82 points. Which will put us comfortably at the top end of the play-offs, with a shout at the automatics.
Yep. Some on here seem to think this is a one team game. Amazingly enough there are 23 other teams battling for their own objectives.
A new fashion has crept into football fans where they are apparently fully entitled to go full tilt at any time and then if things turn around they don't want to be reminded of it as that was their opinion at the time. That's really weird when reacting to very short runs of games or even worse, the same game in segments just to maximise negativity.

Indeed. Heads have gone, again.
I don’t believe heads have gone and perspective is wholly in place. Looking at the table we are doing ok and where we should be but based on the value of the squad compared to majority of opposition we should be ripping the league up. We have recruited badly for what we have had at our disposal and this is the most frustrating thing for me as it’s even againsts ashtons/mckennas stated needs.
We have a disjointed squad full of some very vey good individuals but not a team and do not have the togetherness or different player types needed to wholly affect games when things are going wrong. Morsey was a one in a million player, he literally was so don’t expect a replacement to him but the lack of pace and up top physicality which is what McKenna and Ashton were screaming for and stated they were recruiting for, to have a progressive team that stands a chance of not only being promoted but surviving is a million miles away from the reality of what we have.
That’s my biggest frustration and also feel sorry for some of the players that do look like they are trying and really do care but trying to do too much them selves because of the likely reality of not trusting their team mates to do it. It’s like working in an office where you ended up doing everything and not wanting to send work to a subordinate because you know they will crap it up and create more work. If you kept passing to a team mate that was missing sitters or crossing into row z I would no longer pass to him and it’s obvious this is what’s happening when watching games and players on great positions being avoided numerous times throughout games.

But whatever the season, the term happy clapper will be used for anyone who disagrees with them.
I notice a certain vlogger who recorded and then shared a song mocking Middlesbrough fans over us buying Hackney off them has not let the shame of that stop him from still videoing his thoughts. Ditto the other vlogger who said Philogene was out for the season, which like the Hackney sale, rebounded on him.
We should be fighting for top 2 though with our squad, not gambling on a 1 in 4 shot at the playoffs.
You can't get a free pass for relegation and say your squad is weak and then when your squad is the strongest not expect to be fighting for automatic promotion, you can't have it both ways.

We'd have gone second if we'd won last night. There are five-and-a-bit months of the season to go. The idea we are not fighting for the top two is just bizarre to me.

We are fighting for top 2, we're only 3 points off second.

That's good then, i was responding to "battling in the play-off places".

We're three points away. The league table doesn't care about feelings, it is based on facts. Why post things like that when you can see we are fighting for top 2? It's there in black and white. Your post makes zero sense.

Some people are showing perspective, plenty aren't. We've got people calling for McKenna to go, people saying we've got no chance of automatics. It's all very over the top and a kneejerk reaction to a very frustrating result. Your post is pretty balanced, some stuff I agree with and some other stuff not necessarily, but there's also been a lot of people just chatting over the top guff as well.

Maybe i misconstrued the meaning of the post I responded to. My posting history is generally positive of our current situation.

We're in a good position. It could be better for sure, but we are in a decent place to go for top two. We will strengthen in January and injuries will start to bite the teams with smaller squads - in fact they already are.

Come on Herbs. Even you have to admit we’ve no way of making up 3 points in 29 games. Or something.
*Sighs* It was ever thus. Last night was our Bristol Rovers away. Or even our previous Oxford away! It happens and yep we get a meltdown each time. We’re still in a decentish place (but not too many more of those please).
Forum has gone to pot lately, no nuanced discussion really and plenty of entitled, reaction based posts. So disappointing, think I'm pretty much done in that sense.

There's a fairly large number of posters who seemed to appear towards the second half of our Championship promotion season. They generally only appear after a loss or draw and they tend to be very over the top in their negativity. They generally then disappear for a bit when we're doing well. I don't think many (if any) of them go to games as they're usually posting on here during and immediately after the game. They make it quite an unpleasant experience reading the forum, no desire for debate and no capacity to show any sense of perspective. Not sure if they are venting from a position of entitlement or just trolling but either way it's not very becoming.
We’ve spent an absolute fortune on players, and the managers new contract, gave him a free pass in the premier league and have been patient so far, but questions need to be asked about why we are unable to break teams down, and some of our play is so sloppy, stray passes into nowhere , running into Players, giving the ball Away so cheaply, we were poor against Wrexham poor against hull up until We finally stuck a ball in the box, and very poor last night, if we don’t go up this season, next season we will be competing with wolves Leeds and Burnley by the looks of it, and Leicester and Sheffield Utd the way things stand, we look like a team of strangers out there at times, and it’s very concerning.

Free pass. Posts like this make me laugh.
He took a team from League One straight to the Prem, something that is almost unheard of in this era where the money in the top division dwarfs everything else. It was a step too far. The idea he had a free pass is utter nonsense. It was reality. Sunderland are having a decent season, but they didn't do the same two-division jump that we did. Leeds and Burnley are now repeating the struggle that most promoted teams face, and are in the bottom three.
Funny how we don't look like a team of strangers when we win. Those eight goals we scored at QPR and Swansea must have been lucky rebounds.

I agree I thought I was responding to someone who was saying we are battling for the playoffs i.e. not the top two, but re-reading it I think they just meant we are currently in a play-off position.

We should be beating teams like that week in week out with the money we have spent on the team we’ve assembled. Last season whatever would have happened, mckennas job was always going to be safe, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in what I’ve said, it’s an accurate representation of how we play, these player are on big money, and should be doing a lot better, some of the football At times has been dire.

At times it has been frustrating.
At other times it has been very good.
If money spent guaranteed success, Man Utd would have won a title in the last few years.
