| The favourite car you ever owned 22:05 - Nov 30 with 382 views | Churchman | In tribute to a couple of posters I’ve swapped posts with, what’s your favourite? Not the best, most reliable, suitable, most flash, no rationale. Purely most important no reason, no judgement. The one that in your head you say ‘I wish I still had it’. I’ll go first. My thread, prerogative. A late 1985 three door Toyota Corolla GT. not the coupe version. The boring hatchback one. Soooo dull. Red with black trim. Unassuming, quiet. Sunroof, cassette player, grey mouse fur interior. Big alloy wheels as standard, no power steering, nothing much at all really. Zzzz. But open the bonnet and omg there it was. A twin cam dogs gonads engine held by strengthening bars. Hear it run, touch the throttle, but do it kindly. It was a work of art. It went like nothing else of its peers. Going round corners? Bit of a problem. But I adored how well engineered it was and how I could literally hit the floor with it in a way I can’t do now in my current car and it’d say to me ‘yeah, more please’. Yet in the back the shopping, luggage, clubs went. Kindly Aunt one day, total monster the next. Loved it. Ok, I’ve had a few beers and upbeat reminiscing, but for those who are interested in cars, even vaguely, which is the one? [Post edited 30 Nov 22:09]

| The favourite car you ever owned on 22:16 - Nov 30 with 299 views | farkenhell | I've had flashier cars before and since, but the most comfortable by far was a bog-standard Peugeot 406. In those days, I was travelling all over the country and I could drive for 5 or 6 hours then jump out of the car feeling as fresh as a daisy. I replaced it with an E-class Mercedes that had a variety of whistles and bells, but would give me chronic backache if I went more than a couple of hours without a break. I certainly wish I still had the 406. | | | |
| The favourite car you ever owned on 22:23 - Nov 30 with 278 views | Plums | The MKII Capri 1.6L I had when I was 20. It wasn't flash or fast by any stretch of the imagination but it was fun to drive and I went all over the place in it . mostly following Town. Somebody took the rear corner off it when it was parked outside a friend's house and it was the beginning of the end. | |

| The favourite car you ever owned on 22:31 - Nov 30 with 246 views | NewcyBlue | I had an emotional attachment to my Mk3 Capri. 1600 Laser. Black. Loved it. Since then, Jaguar XFS was an incredible machine. I’ve now got a Jaguar XK8 that I love, when I think about getting rid of it, I go for a drive and fall in love with it over again. The noise of the V8, the walnut dash, the smell. I park up and can’t help but stare at it. It’s a piece of art. | |

| The favourite car you ever owned on 22:37 - Nov 30 with 216 views | BanksterDebtSlave | I bought a Rover P6 for £400 in around 1990 despite not having learned to drive. Never travelled to free festivals with a car full of crusty punks in more style, also towed a caravan around Ireland for a winter before finally being abandoned up a mountain in mid Wales when the gear stick snapped off. Loved that car and just remembered the number plate letters were N(o)M(a)D which was why I bought it. | |

I’ve never owned an Alfa. I’m genuinely a bit jealous of Lagos, his car is beautiful!

I love your taste in motors, but as owner of the thread….. just one. It can be a total pile of cr@p. No logic, no rationale, just the one you wish you still had for any reason you like.

Oi! Best car I've driven by a county mile, but wouldn't go near one if I needed it for work. Fave car for me will always be my first, Ford Cortina Mk 5 1.6l with a dodgy air intake grill someone had put on it. Back end used to go walkabout so could drift round bends which was proper fun to a young man in his early 20s. Dents all over it so could happily play chicken in it. Dodgy alternator so would die as you dipped yer clutch slowing for a roundabout, but you could bumpstart midway round to get a clean exit. Always get a twang whenever I see an Mk5, very rare these days.

| The favourite car you ever owned on 22:54 - Nov 30 with 125 views | Ryorry | Fond memories of a 2nd hand Triumph Herald bought in Ipswich in 1973/4. For no other reason that it had a sports leather steering wheel & I loved looking at it :) Can't remember anything else about it except that c. 2020, I was putting the bins out onto the unclassified minor road in our remote rural location in N. Yorkshire, when the same model & colour car, with a familiar looking numberplate, drew up at the T-junction opposite & turned to drive past me! Can't remember if it was *the* same numberplate, but given there can't be many such vintage TH's still on the road, that's quite some coincidence. My absolute fav of all time tho has to be the first Landrover Defender90 I owned, County model, loved that car, proper good L-shaped seats for spines. Sadly that & the ones after it all got sold when the chassis all rotted as they have a wont to do (despite all the undersealing etc.). | |

I’m sensing the Herald is your choice. No rationale, commit! 😃

| The favourite car you ever owned on 23:02 - Nov 30 with 88 views | GlasgowBlue | I’ve had a couple of Porsches which I absolutely loved. But from a pure nostalgia point of view, my second ever car was a white TR7. Completely unrealisable but for a teenager it looked the business and the girls loved it. As a two seat car I once managed to get a mate and three girls in the car going to the Tartan House in Frating. Obviously I wouldn’t encourage such reckless behaviour today. | |

In red. When I get it washed it looks so good. Have genuinely had strangers approach me to say how good it looks. That only ever happens to me when on my Kwaka! But we can't always be cool kids. 😅

Sorry GB, you need to answer the question. Memorably tragic experiences (like the back seat of my first car) are for another thread. One choice, no reasoning. What your heart tells you, not your head.
