Alternative to Churchy's thread, what's the worst set of wheels you've had?

For me, defo a handme-down VW Derby. They were saloon Golfs, mine was an absolute shocker. From a window that wouldn't close, to a heater that didn't work. Used to do 0 to 60 in around 15, maybe 16 minutes. (Found out later it only drove on three of its 4 pistons according to the AA guy)

Once parked up at Villa park and the kids looking for parking money

Kid. Quid to look after yer motor
Me: It's not worth a quid
Kid: There's joyriders round here
Me: What self respecting joyrider would be seen dead in that?
Kid: Fair comment.

Post match car needed a bumpstart so the same kids helped and got their quid too :-)

BMW 1 series. A company car from the pool and not of my choosing.

Horrible car, rear wheel drive with a heavy front end - OK enough on a dry summers day, dangerous in the wet and a nightmare on ice and snow.

A boot the size of a shoe box, zero leg room in the back and like sitting in a vice in the front.

Once the lease ran out I was able to choose a car that was none of these things.....

The day we went to Oxford in 92 and drew 1-1 to gain promotion i hired a ford sierra . It was the very basic model.and was absolutely gutless with 5 of us in it. I thought the Metro was the worse car ever but this comes close.

I didn't own it, but my hosuemate had a 206 cc.... absolutely horrendous pile of steaming doo doo... rattled and shook like someone had cut and shut it ( which basically they had), burned out coil packs on an almost yearly basis, and drank oil at a similar rate to how much beer I consumed when we beat Norwich....

One of the work pool cars was one of those. It had a silly card thing to start it, a wallowy ride that made me feel sick, drove badly and fell apart even quicker than Renaults normally do. Agree - it was an ugly pile of junk.

I had a 2006 Mercedes SLK up until last year. It did about 20 mpg, had absolutely no space in the boot, rode 8 inches off the floor and was a death trap in any other conditions bar 20c+ sun.

God I loved that car.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

The worst car I had was a Ford Sierra. It had a leak so the passenger footwell would fill up with water. I only had it a few months and sold it to a dealer.
It just came to me what was even worse was a Saab Cabriolet . I bought it privately.
As I had a car already I didn't drive it for a couple of weeks, except to drive it home. When I eventually drove it I had been taking it to work for around three days when an engine management light came on. I took it to a local garage and they discovered it was a big end that had gone. There was worse to come as myself and the garage tried to find a replacement engine. I found one and paid £1200 for it. It was suppose to have around 32,000 miles on it. When it was delivered to the garage they phoned me and said I had better call in and look at it. It was a heap. I phoned the company that supplied it and they said they would exchange it. A week passed. The garage phoned again. The same engine had been delivered back to them. I called the Company and told them to take it back and issue a refund. They took it back but despite endless calls and saying a cheque was in the post I never received the refund. They we then on Rogue Traders. A lady had taken her car to them for a new engine. Weeks went by before they said it was o.k. for her to collect her car. It broke down on her way home. Apparently these engines were coming from a scrapyard in Liverpool. I had the original engine rebuilt including the turbo. It cost me more than the car had cost in the first place. OUCH.

It shouldn't have been my worst car but I had a Triumph Dolomite...with an overdrive switch.
Bought secondhand for not much on a Friday evening, up on the M1 to see the in-laws in Stoke on a sunny Saturday morning. Traffic is light and doesn't that overdrive button look tempting ? Give it to me one time..wahey, give it to me two times...wahey, give it to me three times...what the feck is that very loud knocking noise ? Jeez, look at the temperature gauge. Pulled off the motorway at Northampton, made some calls, yep, big end gone, they've packed the casing with sawdust, just enough to get the engine running for a few miles. I left it in a sort of cul-de-sac, wrote to the guy who sold it to me telling him where it was and that I was bouncing his cheque. Which I did, but expected a call at the house. Never materialised, I expect he was too busy working on the next scam sales. And the wife and I had a strangely enjoyable evening at a Travelodge in Northampton, escaped an in-laws visit and went back to London on the train the next day.

I had one of those Meganes on an 04 plate - but the estate version. It was good for long distances because it was so light, it was an easy drive.

However, that was its only redeeming feature. Renault wanted £400 to change a headlight bulb because the design was so crap it needed the whole front grill and valance removing. The alternative was to skin your knuckles behind the front wheel which I managed to perfect.

When it decided it was time to fall apart, it really went for it. I part exed it with a piece of wood behind the passenger door card holding the window up.
My favourite failure and the one that meant the car had to go was the bonnet catch. It packed up one day and wouldn't close properly so I had to tape the bonnet shut. It turned out it had an externally audible alarm which could only be silenced by the bonnet pushing down on a switch. With the spring trying to lift the bonnet, tape alone couldn't hold it down firmly enough to trigger the switch. The catch packed up on a sales trip to Uni of Gloucester. I was in the car park balancing a column of 2p pieces on top of the switch, trying to stop the racket whilst simultaneously holding the bonnet shut and tape it in place when my prospect arrived in a minibus 30 yards away after showing a group of dignitaries around.
It wasn't the entrance I wanted to make...

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I had a Talbot Horizon.
It was so bad the Police turned up at my Mum and Dads house to report it was vandalised overnight when Id left it in a carpark in Stowmarket. We turned up to find it in the same state Id left it in.
It had the turning circle of cruise liner, puddles in the foot wells. Only one door opened. A radio stuck on MW that could only pick up country hits gold. I remember turning up at a petrol station and having to climb out of the window with Rinestone cowboy blasting out of the half tuned radio. People stopped and stared.
