Can't argue with this.... 22:47 - Dec 2 with 1342 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

"I don’t think it was a good performance in any aspect. It was a tough game but we weren’t good enough so I don’t think the performance merited anything from it.

"We’re happy we got the moment at the end and happy for Sindre.

"The reality of this season is we can have more chances and shots but if we don’t win it will be called a bad performance and I think we’ve had lots of games like that this year.

"We are one of the top teams in the league on most things, we’ve had among the most shots, we don’t concede many shots, we’re certainly not as smooth as what I would want us to be but I think there’s been good things about performances but we haven’t turned that into results.

"Tonight was different, tonight was a poor performance. We know we have a lot to improve and tonight was a big step back in performance and we need to deliver much more."

Fair enough. At least he's not trying to gaslight the fans when performances are bad like previous managers have.

Ffs McK tonight wasn't a one off.

More than HALF the games this season has been like this, probably more. And only now you're admitting the performances have been poor?

In fact we seem to be getting worse game after game. And you still stick to your one-dimensional gameplay with like-for-like subs and instance on tippy tappy sideways and backwards passing playing out from the back. Even fans can see it, obviously the opposition manager and players can as well. You have been worked out a long time ago!

So what are you going to do about it?

McKenna always seems fair in his interviews. He knows we are not good enough or not playing as well as we can.

Well he’s saying despite what you’re eyes are seeing we’re one of the best teams this season on all statistics - REMEMBER THAT - and tonight was an anomaly.

I'm not at the point yet. But it seems like the same stuff every game. Just sometimes we seem to get the goals and win (ie Hull) and other times we don't.

There have been some absolute terrible games this season. I'm not sure why we've become so dull.

Yes. But he said the same about Friday as well. He spoke well. He always does. But currently performances are going backwards. He has to reverse that, or he should be toast.

Ah yes Sindre Walle Egeli, the goal scorer, being subbed on for Matusiwa is ‘like for like’.

Good and honest comments.

I think we're just knackered, with so much travelling and so many games almost back-to-back.

At least we have a few days to recover now.

For me, I just want to see a consistent line-up, so we look less like a team of strangers and more like a cohesive, fluid unit.

If we have been found out, it's that we're not quite good enough to play out from the back, and not good enough to break down teams which shut up shop. We're too slow on the transition from defence into attack and our opponents have forever to reassemble in defence.

I'm sure it will come good and we do need to keep the faith. But the last two games have been painful watches.

I actually became more depressed listening to his comments on the chemistry! Incredibly honest and open of him.

Should it have been a Red in the first half? I didn't see that part of the game.

No. Leif was right there, and the player didn’t have the ball under control yet.

As always he sees the game as it is and doesn’t BS the fans or patronise us. Whilst also being restful to his players.

Super Kieran McKenna.

My thoughts as well. Definitely seen them given but I don’t think that was a red.

We were very poor tonight. Some of that was down to features common to so many games this year - a first half that is rich in possession but utterly toothless and incredibly sluggish, setting us up for a second half that - usually - goes one of two ways: score and dominate thanks to fresh legs, or concede and crumble. This was a rare case of fighting back this year, which is a positive, but despite its glaring problems this is a squad that should beat Blackburn handily all day long. I thought Kipre was good, but mostly because he was our only attacking threat (which speaks volumes). Short passing was poor whenever it was attacking (even silky Cajuste fluffed a few), poor control (Hirst and Azón both have concrete feet when receiving the ball), no momentum (McAteer, Akpom and Clarke jogging into cul-de-sacs all evening), lack of positional awareness (Davis never seems to know where opposition players are). All round pretty awful but I still have plenty of hope that some of the gap between potential and performance will be fixed. Someone who can receive and progress the ball smoothly and smartly on the diagonal like peak Chaplin or peak Morsy would be very welcome in January - it's not Nuñez, who so far has provided very little beyond a few great free kicks.

I was worried the ref was going to pull the red out at the time but he gave himself time to think and correctly issued the yellow IMHO.

Leif was covering and it was quite far out.

Would have certainly been screaming for a red had it been the other way round though

[Watching it back I don’t even think Matusiwa intentionally tripped him up, he was looking at the ball and it was a clash of legs]
