| Expansion of the ground seems a great idea on 20:54 - Dec 17 by chantryblueboy | If they come out tomorrow and said our plan to make the club bigger and more successful was to sack McKenna would you blindly agree with that, or would you come to your own conclusion about what is for the best of the club in the long term? |
Can you put into words what it is you dislike about the club having plans for a larger stadium?

I don’t blindly agree with anything they say. It’s about applying some critical thinking to what has been said about the club’s plans for the next 5-7 years, and a larger capacity stadium is a small part of that along the way. If they announced they were building a 40k capacity stadium immediately, I’d question the rationale. They haven’t. If they say a 40k capacity stadium is part of their broader, long term ambition, I’d conclude that makes sense. This is what they have said. I’m more than interested in hearing a detailed, thought out counter argument to this.

Likelihood of it being filled week in week out Loss of Portman Road being a traditional ground Movement away from being a football club built on tradition and values and towards being a corporate template

Nothing to do with atmosphere, then. You would rather we downsized to ensure that, should we get less successful we at least had a full ground. You opposed the development of the current stands and would prefer we still had sheds around the ground then? You would prefer to support Ipswich Wanderers than a Premier League club.

Our current ground is too big when we are not successful. This has been proven

If you do support the football club, then you’ll understand that to have a successful football team, you have to spend money (that usually dictates success, although there are exceptions). That being the case, we need revenue, part of which comes from selling seats but as importantly, from use of the ground when there isn’t a game. The stands we are considering developing are 40 and 50 years old, they are cramped and lacking facilities, so they need improvement no matter what. Not sure which bit of that means you don’t want it.

Season ticket holder for over 20 years as it goes. And I've not heard anyone sing that our ground's too big for us, let alone on the numerous occasions you suggest.

Is there some suggestion that improving commercial revenue and facilities, like most serious clubs do now, would impact how the ground functions as a football ground? And don't think we havent noticed how you have wriggled away from justifying your silly comments about Bristol. Which is really a very decent setup these days. [Post edited 17 Dec 22:02]

The same goes for all clubs though. Stick all the present PL clubs in the championship for a couple seasons and watch their attendances plummet.
