As much as I love Hirst from previous seasons. I don’t think he is the 9 we need to take us to the next level. Struggles to sniff out half chances

Midfield is the bigger problem.

Yeah, I've given Hirst the benefit of the doubt so far this season but today he was a passenger and that's been the case too many times. No movement, not making the CBs work, poor touch, zero goal threat, and even his pressing was lacklustre. Problem is that finding a striker who can come in and master that role midseason is going to be nigh on impossible.

It was legit like playing with 10 men. Horrible performance, the service excuse only goes so far. It still annoys me we are starting Taylor and Hirst with the money spent on this team. I fear Jan might be too late.

Yup. We dismantled a midfield that functioned well in the Championship last time round, and backed ourselves to improve it. We failed.

Up front is not that dissimilar to be honest, save that of course we couldn't hope to hold on to Delap. The failure to replace him is baffling. Still, we have 17 right backs so that's OK then. We don't have a striker better than Kieffer Moore, as far as I can see.

The fact that there have been many failures in the transfer market is not a terribly insightful take, I accept.

I agree. Hurst, Azon or Akpom are not the answer.

Crazy how we have got player recruitment so so wrong.

Mcateer doing nothing, Egeli not ready, Akpom a waste of space, Azon ineffective, Greaves on the bench, Clarke just not suited to the system. That's so so much wasted money right there, in a position where so many decent players would have wanted to join, also knowing for a long time we were going down. Absolutely criminal and I will stand by that.

I'm not convinced the answer is spending more money on more players who won't fit in the squad unless we leave other players out. All of these players are good enough individually and we have a stacked squad already.

I don't really mind that he's not looking like scoring much, it's the lack of link up play from him, and the lack of getting in front of his marker.

A striker would be a help we got lucky with Delap but getting a striker always seems the clubs achilles heal. We have a unbalanced squad play offs for me not good enough consistently.

When you spend what we did this off season with our parachute cash we shouldn’t need to Jan to bail us out.

Maybe we aimed too high but we should have just signed someone like Moore or McBurnie when we were trying anyway. Even if that wouldn’t have excited anyone at the time. Not like we couldn’t afford a plan B, I guess that was Hirst but was he ever going to score 25 goals for us this year?

Compared to most parachute clubs in recent history (bar Luton) and Leicester (who didn't sign anyone) our recruitment is $hite.

Throwing £££ and overpriced and/or unproven players and/or signing players then playing them out of position

Who's responsible?

Ashton has his right hand man I guess? Combined with running every other commercial project at the club, seems a lot.

I’d have hoped for much greater strides in expanding that department after promotion and year in the PL.

Ashton and his sidekicks better remember they are running a football club, probably spending too much time marketing Portman Road as some concert and event venue that they forget what their main business is - football

Atleast Azon actually gets himself into positions to miss his chances. George Worst is just a waste of time
