Can't knock the quality of the shot, however this is not the first time the opposition have attempted to chip Walton from mid way this season. I wrote on a previous thread a few weeks ago that the opposition scouts had spotted something in our keeper acting as a sweeper in defence and coming too far off his line. It happened twice recently and I stated then that it will continue to happen. Trying a lob shot keeps a keeper honest, however we didn't learn from.previous attempts.

From memory QPR and Bristol both tried and weren't far off, there may be others too
I know keepers are set up as last line of defence but surely you must stay within the distance that you can reasonably be expected to cover should a speculative shot come in

They’ll be trying it even more now.
Dara with the pre-assist is the real issue here though. If we don’t keep turning over the ball so easily, it doesn’t happen.
This winds me up far more than Walton - who is clearly being told to be positioned where he is.
I don’t see why on earth O’Shea plays that pass, it’s a pathetic attempt and he’s getting getting nowhere near the level of criticism for it that it warrants.

Its a poor pass but at least he was trying to make something happen. He was either aiming for philogene or davis over the top not quite sure but least it wasn't a predictable simply sideways pass..
The sweeper keeper doesn’t need to be so high, especially when the Leicester forward is a 35 year old Ayew.
I could understand it more if Vardy was playing.
How many times has Walton beaten an attacker to a ball over the top. I can’t remember one?
He should have been, at least 10 yards further back.
According to Ian Westlake on the comms, CW has beaten an attacker to the ball at least 10 times (I think that's what he said, although I'm not sure whether or not he was including previous seasons). I think it has happened, it just doesn't stick in the mind when it does.
Also, slightly off your point I know, but I thought Ayew played well yesterday. Constantly harassing our defenders, not giving them a moments peace.

We shouldn’t have lost possession so tamely.
Agree, O’Shea shouldn’t have gave away possession so easily.
Taylor shouldn’t allow Fatawa get past him so easily, albeit he was already on a yellow.
But, for me, none of those excuse your goalkeeper being so far forward. At least three times in the last month, teams have tried to lob Walton from a distance, it is obviously highlighted as an opportunity to score/ area of weakness.
It certainly, will be highlighted even more, now that we have conceded a goal.

I believe on the evidence of the highlights I strongly believe that Walton was at fault for all three goals. A goalkeeper should be looking at the ball for 90 minutes when the opposition has possession. 1st goal safeable (unless he has a weak left side). 2nd goal safeable (totally caught out by his positioning). 3rd goal could have been stopped (lack of communication with defenders to shield the goal). Difficult decision for KMc Walton or Palmer. Another shake up at least for Wednesday.

Looking at the reaction from the Leicester bench to the goal, it looked planned to try that shot, presumably based on scouting at our previous matches. A very obvious weakness that someone was going to exploit sooner or later.
