Hungary Slovakia and Czech Republic decide not to contribute.

Would it be that they feel more threatened and so are scared to contribute? Just a thought and would be very good reason for more to stand up to the Russian threat.

I'm surprised by the Czechs, when I was there a couple of years ago, Ukrainian colours and support were everywhere. There was even an art installation of a chunk of Russian tank painted yellow and blue. I haven't kept up with their domestic political situation, have the leadership become less Euro-centric?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Hungary and Slovakia's leaders definitely feel threatened by the idea of Russia losing.

Do we have to keep them in the EU

There was a change of government in Czechia recently. Up until then the Czechs had done more to support the Ukrainians militarily, relative to size of populations as just about anybody.

Ukraine was running out of shells for it's Soviet era artillery, so Czechia sourced stocks from all over the world.

The new Government has aligned itself more with Hungary and Slovakia, where Right Wing Nationalist Governments are, at the very least, pushing Putin's "peace deal" as a means of ending a war which threatens to undermine security in the wider area, and at the very worst have all but become allies of Putin.

They could have voted against it but didn't. I'm honestly not sure what you expected.

Czechia has contributed to Ukraine. Military aid, tanks, equipment, taking in refugees, and so on. That the main Ukrainian supporting party lost an election, doesn't mean there isn't still significant support for Ukraine in the country. Wishing them invasion and subjugation is pathetic.

Focusing solely on the countries is also a bit off. Companies invested in Russia, they continued to invest in Russia even when they new what the leaders were doing for freedoms, they took a bet and lost. Now they have successfully petitioned European governments not to seize the frozen Russian assets, because Russia may seize their assets in return. This was a major consideration. So essentially the people of Europe have to pay for the loan, rather than the Russian taxpayer, because companies suddenly don't want to be at the whim of the free market when suits them.

What about Belgium? Should they be kicked out if the EU fur voting against seized Russian assets being used to fund Ukraine?

I disagree strongly with the position of Hungary and Slovakia, but surely membership of the EU should not be conditional on doing what they are told be Brussels? Surely that goes against the principles of the EU which is made up 27 countries, all of whom have their own interests.

What happens when votes are divided between multiple parties.

Motorists for themselves, a new party contesting their first election, hold 13 out of 200 seats. Unless the major parties in UK get their act together the same thing could happen here and Reform will be the beneficiaries.

"Unless the major parties in UK get their act together"

That ship has well and Truly sailed now. If Nige isn't stood on the steps of Number 10 come the next election, the Reform will certainly be the main opposition. The world is depressing currently.

That's a really disingenuous comparison. Belgium is not ideologically opposed. Their concern was that nearly all the frozen assets is in Belgium and they want the EU to financially backstop any decision.

Hungary meanwhile aren't just voting on this one position. Orban has attacked the judiciary and independent media to hobble opposition groups and consolidate power, against all charters signed up to when ascending to the EU. He has backed Russia consistently throughout the war and repeatedly stymies or delays aid decisions for Ukraine. As a cherry on top, he's done this while criminalising LGBTQ+ groups and leading one of the most racist governments in the EU.
