I realise everyone does it now, but I really dislike seeing Town players feigning injury, looking for fouls at every opportunity or trying to influence officials. Shithousey was always something foreign teams did. Oh and Merry Christmas to you and your families. Up the Town!
It's got to the point where everyone in the stadium knows cheating is going on....including the ref, but they still stop the game and fall for it.
I watch a lot of rugby and I know those players are built differently, but the amount and severity of hits their bodies go through is incredible. A fit sportsman can take a lot of punishment. You get a young, fit footballer getting someones hand swatting his cheek and he's gone down as if he's been hit with a baseball bat. So much obvious cheating. I do think there is universal dislike of this in this country' that we could try and get rid of it. Maybe retrospective punishment.
And shirt pulling at corners is getting ridiculous. Both teams do it. Who do you punish?

that was by big takeaway from watching the full game of Town v Leeds in the first PL season, which someone posted on here. The game flowed much more, no faffing & wrestling over free kicks & corners. There were some rough challenges, but the players on both sides picked themselves up & got on with the game. Almost no dissent. Referee, David "the headmaster" Elleray (who had a reputation as a pedant) let the game flow, not looking to give a free kick at the slightest contact. Players also didn't routinely steal 10 yards at defensive throw ins.
I blame the rule-makers/officials. So much of it could so easily be dealt with but they choose not to. If we then didn't play that part of the game we would be giving ourselves a real disadvantage. Unfortunately we aren't good enough to forfeit those sort of margins (and are unlikely ever to be). Can you find me any modern team that never does it?

I hate it and most fans hate it.

Likewise, so much attitude wise from rugby would improve football.
Rugby is a game where players will not give the opposition the satisfaction of knowing they are hurt, football is full of cheats making out they are.
I hope no professional footballer is out shopping today, I got bumped by more than one trolley, but never fell to the ground squealing and holding my face...
The thing is, with so many cameras, and in a lot of cases, VAR, it's so obvious now as well.
If you were to brush past them in the pub on a Saturday night, you wouldn't go flying over like you'd be shot by a snipper. They'd probably turn into a tough guy and want to fight you!

How do they look at themselves in a mirror?
But the rules play into this so much too. In rugby, if they need treatment they either go off for it or the physio comes on and treats them while the game continues. Why in football does everyone have to stop and watch the player receive treatment (whilst the other players get a team talk and a breather) before we wait for them to traipse off the pitch (often by the longest route possible)? So much that could be learnt from other sports ... if the rule-makers wanted to.

With their eyes I guess or is it a trick question?

Rugby Union these days is such a stop-start game that I find it near unwatchable. The endless scrum resets, players taking ages to get ready for a line-out, endless VAR delays. While it was a game that tolerated a huge amount of thuggery, since professionalism there has been almost as much cheating as in football. About the only thing in its favour is that they do try to get on with the game when a player is supposedly injured, but before almost every scrum one of the forwards goes down & takes a breather while the tedious water-carriers encroach onto the pitch.
Twice in a game (vs Stoke maybe), Azon did that thing where he was rolling around on the floor as if his leg was broken, and after a period of time (too long for me) he got up and started running instantly.
Firstly, its selfish and not for the team. Secondly, the ref must see it most of the time so he won't get any benefit of the doubt in future.
Its also amazing how the only players having cramp are the team happy with the score isn't it? I'm sure i've seen some games where the goalie gets cramp......!

But in a lot of cases it’s not obvious at all. A player bursts into the penalty area and the faintest of touches could well send him flying - it’s not that he’s cheating, simply due to the fact that a slight brush will result in him losing his footing.
It might look like he’s cheating but everything looks a lot worse on VAR.

If you think modern football is crap, watch one of those Match of the 70s or 80s highlights shows. Bunch of donkeys playing hoofball or head tennis. The skilful players were simply kicked by a bunch of thugs who wouldn’t even play about L1 now.
No wonder fans back then frequently had running battles with one another - thankfully football has evolved.

Bobby's 81 team were far from a bunch of donkeys. Fitness, diet, balls and pitches have obviously improved but to say it was just hoofball is absolute nonsense.

Exceptions happen - but in the main, football in the 70s and 80s was hoofball and thuggish. And the fans were just a bunch of Neanderthals as well.

Billy Bremner in the unlikely role of peacemaker. Described as 5'5" of barbed wire. The ref initially only sent off Hunter, but he then dismissed Lee as well after pressure from the Leeds players, probably led by Bremner. Hunter had initially become enraged when Lee "won" a penalty & had been trying to kick him ever since. Hunter didn't really fancy it in the rematch, did he, although he apparently split Lee's lip with his initial punch.

That is some stereotyping going on there. Totally disagree. Sure, fans were more partisan and players had more heart and fight about them. And skilled players still thrived, they were just tougher than the current gen. 70s 80s, I loved all of it. Warts and all.
