I know plenty didn’t want him here and even just a few weeks ago some wanted him out of the door. ‘Cut our losses’ was one dismal expert’s take on him. Watching him yesterday - what a terrific, exciting player he is.

At times he’s totally unplayable. Give him any space at all and he’ll tear you a new one. He was very unlucky not to score that over the head attempt to add to his personal goal of the season competition.

I’ve no idea what his transfer fee was, but if we don’t go up there will be plenty of Premier League clubs wanting his services.

Jack Clarke isn’t too shabby a player either.

Help me on your view on Egeli please.

I’ve seen every game this season, and I’m yet to see what his standout quality is, what it is that makes so many believe there is a PL player of the future. And I do like him, he is certainly a good player, nice touch on the ball, good composure. What is it that you see that makes you believe he has such high potential?

As comparisons, Delap quickly showed us his pace and power. And Hutchinson, that he could dribble and beat a man at pace.

I think its a fair question.

There's no doubt he has promise, he's got a hell of a left foot on him and there really aren't many 19 year olds doing what he's doing at this level. Its a monumental step up and an incredibly hard league physically, but I can't quite square off the level of hype around him vs. what we're seeing on the pitch yet. I do think he's playing out of position, but a part of me suspects the hype is as much driven by the price tag as anything else right now.

Darren Currie on the striking the ball as well with both feet?

Currie was technically great off both feet but Philogene also has explosive power in both feet too.

It's going to be an interesting January because I think we look like we need improvement in CM, RM (in terms of a direct right sided player), 10 and 9. But we aren't going to sign 4 new players. A couple of those issues could be sorted by re-jigging some players around, i.e Nunez into CM or Egeli into the 10 or 9. I guess we will soon see how McKenna feels about it.

Omari came into a confident Ipswich team, free flowing, scoring for fun and bagged 10 goals in 44 Championship appearances and supplying 5 assists.

Jaden has scored 8 goals in 21 games with 2 assists in a team not really hitting the high notes yet.

Not to mention he's absolutely on a par with Omari on every other statistic on the comparable Championship seasons.

He's top drawer and his work rate is right up there too.

Yes I’d still move him and Clarke on. Talented boys, not the right fit for us long term. Flashy footballers, produce moments, but not enough consistency to be top level footballers.

It doesn’t impress me too much being a near £20m signing in the PL, but have to drop a league to look better, and theres been enough games even at this level they’ve been poor or completely anonymous. I’m not going to get carried away with any performance against bottom of the league I’m afraid.

If we could get decent money on any of them I’d snap your hand off because they are miles off the PL.

Absolute madness.

I think a new CM is going to happen, which in turn probably leaves Nunez for that 10 role and hoping he can keep kicking on and stay fit, which hasn't always been a given previously.

We've definitely got some re-jigging to do, question marks over Burns' future, does Chaplin stay at Pompey (probably), Harry Clarke goes I guess, Humphreys too. Ben Johnson looks out of the picture, can we get him out? Do we sign cover for Leif or cross our fingers on him?

CM and #9 to come in I reckon, plus 1 or 2 more. Wouldn't surprise me to see 4 come in.

Interesting, shows he’s had a v good season so far. Two footed too, unlike Omari. Definitely a better finisher.

Although he’s a lot older than Omari in what was Omari’s first season, and obviously JP has lots more experience. Comparisons, always tricky!

Let’s hope he now really flies in 2026. Omari took off from Feb onwards in 2024, was consistently outstanding for the last few months of the season. Let’s hope JP does the same, fingers crossed…

Yes, I think getting players out could be a bit prohibitive for us. Clarke/Johnson/Humphreys are obvious outs (on loan at least) but to bring 2/3 into the forward areas we probably need to move 1/2 out in those areas in particular or there is going to be a lot of traffic. I think if we could cut Akpom's loan short we would do it in a shot but suspect we can't given how hard it was to get him here in the first place.

I had the same thought on Akpom, but given all parties would need to agree to it and we have an obligation to buy (if promoted) I wonder if that would add some complexity. Presumably Ajax would only see any value in it if they can move him on somewhere else. I guess they might have another club willing to pay £5m+ for him now, in which case they might think 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

I understand the logic on Clarke. He's weak physically and if we're being honest he can be wasteful and pretty anonymous.

Philogene has Prem potential but imho is some way off, mostly due to the huge gap in physicality.

So many games last season were men against boys in terms of physicality.

Important not to forget the time on the ball, chances and slower pace of the championship. We got outcompeted physically every week in the prem. McK needs to address this if we go up.

The gap in quality is so enormous.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Clarke isn't actually that weak and again, his numbers are pretty impressive.

It's embarrassing to think that people consider 15 goals and 3 assists from the left 10 a position has words such as 'weak, wasteful and anonymous'.

Philogene and Clarke largely play the same position, one as a starter, the other as a finisher.

If one or the other had those stats they'd be waxing lyrical.

I think we're searching for the same from the right side, not quite got it right and also, our strikers are missing a number of good chances sadly.

We're doing lots of good things, just missing too many big chances.
