| Morsy 16:55 - Dec 23 with 3362 views | LeoMuff | Might be wishful thinking but seemed ambiguous from Kmac that “if” he goes will be wished well, but also has other options on the table. Then proceeded to big him up, and said he spoke to him yesterday. Could we be one of those offers ? Didn’t seem out of the question by any means | |

| Morsy on 17:05 - Dec 23 with 2482 views | J2BLUE | Just guessing but I think we would take him but have probably made it clear that he would not be starting every game, it would only be a six month deal and we need to get a few out first. Again, purely guessing, but I think that would make sense. If it gets done I think it will be later in the window and I expect he will sign elsewhere on an 18 month deal in the first few days of Jan. | |

| Morsy on 17:12 - Dec 23 with 2423 views | SuffolkPunchFC | He's not coming. Before answering, Kieran asked if it had been confirmed (which it hasn't). So it is an 'if' until confirmed by the parties. He also said he spoke to Sam yesterday, so probably knows far more than he lets on. | | | |

Why ? A quality championship midfielder who fits our style and has been there and done it with us. It’s a no brainer if he and us are willing, significantly cheaper than many other options as well.

Been done to death on here and you are currently on this on another thread today. No need to jump on this one as well. Please just keep it to one thread, otherwise you make this place pretty unbearable.

Why? Because, as has been outlined in other threads, and I have had confirmed to me by one of the board's more-reliable sources, the club don't want him back. His beliefs, attitudes, and outspokenness rubbed the wrong people up the wrong way. There was a reason the club let a seven-figure asset walk out the door for nothing.

| Morsy on 17:31 - Dec 23 with 2199 views | Vaughan8 | We'd likely only "want" him initially for 6 months so I very much doubt we would offer him longer and doubt he would take a 6 month deal if hes offered say 2.5 years somewhere else (and regular football) | | | |

I find it amazing tbh that many believe the club were keen for him to stay. You dont let a club captain leave for free just because he asked too. [Post edited 23 Dec 2025 18:14]

Do many/some/any think the club were desperate for him to stay? There's so much hyperbole built around this, and some of our other exits.

Who cares, this is a football forum, fed up with all the controversial remarks some have to make all the time. Some people just wake up each morning to see how they can be offended next.
| Morsy on 18:37 - Dec 23 with 1789 views | Herbivore | He's not coming back and rightly so. He's 34 and hasn't played in several months, he'd be joining a squad that has moved on from him. It's a bad idea for many reasons, hence not one we're going to be pursuing. | |

Yeah but football isn't played in a vacuum. It's a part of society.
| Morsy on 18:43 - Dec 23 with 1765 views | Phantasm | I simply do not understand the clamour if not explainable by some (very recent) nostalgia. The guy's legs were chronically exposed as having gone time and again last year. He is not our present, nor our future. I'm delighted he's signed for Bristol City primarily as it has put this absurd shout to bed once and for all. For all he did at the club he deserves a very warm reception when they visit but I'd be very content if that's the last time he takes to the field at PR. | | | |

Their gain I reckon. | |

| Morsy on 18:59 - Dec 23 with 1702 views | Churchman | Sam will do a great job for Bristol City, assuming he’s kept himself fit. Good move for him too. FWIW I think it’d be a big mistake him coming back here, unless as a player/coach back up. And even then I wouldn’t be sure about it. We have to move on from all our yesterdays, however good they were. We are trying to build a new team and in any case i got the feeling Sam was slowing up half way through the season. Really wouldn’t be a surprise given the role he performs and what he’s put into it in his career. As for him partnering Matusiwa, I cannot see how that’d work at all. A back up, maybe. To play them together would for me bring back memories of the Douglas /Skuse partnership (though the two Ms are far better players). Two defensive midfielders. Morsy has rarely stayed at a club more than 3 or 4 years and clearly likes new challenges. Good luck to him. | | | |

If they're lacking for bodies (and have limited quality) in centre midfield then this is demonstrably true. It's all about context isn't it. A forward step for them does not equal a forward step for us if we were to make the same move.
