Doesn't help that he's expected to be a playmaker from centre half, effectively. Nunez playing too far forward (necessary), and neither Matusiwa or Cajuste, or Taylor, can do it. It's why Morsy is such a miss. You could give him the ball and trust him to pass forward or beat a man and run forward.

| O’Shea giving the ball away yet again on 14:58 - Dec 26 with 1121 views | Bassett_Blue | For me, it goes back to recruitment again, he isn't good enough on the ball for how we want to play, yet we had Woolfy who was and has been sold. I said it after the Leicester game, and it becomes more apparent after every game, we haven't replaced Morsy. | | | |

Absolutely, I don't see the 'love in' many have for him, ana absolute liability.

He has been superb, at what he does, but we don't have any one who dictates the centre of midfield like Morsy did.

Azor is probably a better stopper than Morsy. He's not a better player.

Think a few will disagree with you there but you've stated it as fact so it must be true. Morsy was great for us of course but not sure we could have done much better with our replacement. SB [Post edited 26 Dec 15:22]

In the 10 or so games Woolfenden played last season he never let the side down. However, O'Shea and Greaves were the money signings. Many oh here will say look what Woolfy and Burgess have gone on to as proof they weren't good enough but we have spent £30 million on central defenders who are no real improvement.

I think it's worth noting that we've kept 5 clean sheets in the last 9 games, despite often not giving the back 4 much protection. I agree that O'Shea's passing has been suspect the last few games, but lets not go overboard with our criticisms, as we look pretty solid defensively most matches.

I think theres a lot of purposefulness blindness to the role oshea has over what wolfy was given when it comes to ball playing Defensively oshea is miles ahead of wolfy With the ball. Oshea is also better The differences are simply oshea is being asked alot more to build from the back himself. He doesn't have a dropping morsy taking control of the ball off him. You've got a cb being asked to ping diags to the flanks. Find cms in small gaps in midfield, finding those zipping ball opportunities to the front man. Today he had an 85% pass completion rate and made the most passes in the match Kipre had a 65% completion rate Cajuste had 81%. Nunez 77% So despite oshea clearly having made a few terrible balls. Overall he had another solid game out there. Wolfy never let us down correct. That doesn't tho mean we couldn't do better and we have. I do agree oshea gave the ball away. But in a game where he is the playmaker its to be expected.

O'Shea really isn't better with the ball than Woolfenden. That's a terrible shout.

I agree with you is O'Shea has attributes which are an upgrade on Woolfenden. As you say, that doesn't make Woolfenden awful, and it sounds like he's done well for Coventry over the past two games. However, I do not think O'Shea is as comfortable as a ball playing centre back as Woolfenden, and the lack of Morsy only plays into that to a degree. His attempted passes don't look that different from Woolfenden's attempts, yet the accuracy is off too often considering how important they are to our style of play.

Personally that has a lot to do with azor. There was specific one. Azor offered himself oshea went to pass. Azor checked back which ended up with oshea looking like hed played a bad ball which it wasn't it was azor who had stopped. As I say there were some where oshea made a pigs ear of it. But it happens. I would call wolfy a ball playing cb where as dara has historically been better when it comes to progressive passing. Those diags. The balls over the top etc hence imo being better with the ball. Thing is. Oshea is being asked to be morsy and wolfy as one player. Its sad that his passes are being high lighted yet davis who passed it to millwall on a number of occasions with little pressure doesn't get mentioned. Similar to kipre tbh.
