Most Emotional Goals 16:08 - Dec 30 with 2196 viewsPapillon64

The return and goal from young Wes last night had me thinking, my most emotional goals..for me.
1. Magic Jim Bolton.
2.Wark, Highbury 78..on our way to Wembley
3. Sarmiento...Southampton.
4. Burns..Coventry
5. Reuser. Wembley 2000

...do you have any better in your catalogue?

Rather than the obvious ones I am choosing the Fab Wilnis equalizer against Man Utd. First game back in the Premier in 2000. Showed that we could compete with the best. And Ferguson complimented the fans on the atmosphere that day.

The two that I've seen live that spring to mind are

Sarmiento vs Southampton
Priskin vs Arsenal

There was another game that brought tears to my eyes in the last couple of years and I was only watching on TV, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was (which I know goes against the point of the thread). I think it was Barnsley away when Hirst got that second goal

Equaliser?

Fab put us one up as I recall.

Then Utd fluked an equaliser.

Osbourne 1-0
Jason Dozzell's debut goal
Sarmiento!

But as I thought we'd never see Burns in a Town shirt again, standing at Anfield watching him loaded onto the stretcher, so was quite emotional when he came on at Millwall, but to then score in front of us last night, I could have cried out of happiness

1. Osborne ‘1-0’
2. Reuser v Barnsley. What a day, game, finish.
3. Wark 3-1 Highbury 78. Scenes. People were weeping, cheering, going mental. Relief and joy.
4. Burns v Huddersfield 2024. 1-0, it was over. My thoughts went to my dad who’d loved to have seen it
5. Reuser v Bolton. The Saints game was close, but that night v Bolton - extraordinary.

The worst for me was that hiding by Norwich at home. Somehow it outshone in awfulness the 75, 81 semi finals and the play off disappointments.

The Gary Megson winning own goal, coming in the 90th minute, was both a cracker and very emotional.

A couple of others that should have come to mind yesterday:

Hirst at Barnsley.
Chaplin's first against Exeter.

At what point did the driver and/or passengers point out he should have been going to Villa Park rather than London?

Took the coach from Lowestoft. Got to almost Wangford. Had to wait while a flock of sheep was on the road. Got past them and somebody said "Why are we going this way ?" Driver then did not know any other way than to go back to Lowestoft then turn inland. But we had to plough through them sheep again first.

+1 for Pablo vs Coventry as it was the best feeling I've ever experienced at a football match.

I make you right. Faulty memory then !! Still a good moment in time. I see Mr Beckham scored the equalizer.

Yep, it was a Beckham free kick from our right which missed everyone and went in at the far post IIRC...

All the above plus the goals at Villa Park 1981. I thought we'd win the league that year.
Just passed my driving test and drove a van up with brother and five mates piled in the back.

Alan Sunderland's winner at Manu in May 1984, finished their bid to win the League and kept us up against all odds having drawn at Anfield in the previous away game against the team that did win it. Was never sure which part of his body he scored it with.

Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing.

‘Absolute scenes’ apparently

Gavin Johnson at Liverpool 92.

This for me and Magilton’s equaliser against Bolton in 2000 play off semi. First one I found myself three rows further down than I was before the goal, and second was the relief from all those play off failures before it.

Yep, agree with this. Ive never heard such a collective roar of emotion being released.

One thing that makes a goal great in my eyes is when you can see it coming - the tension and the excitement builds as the move progresses before the goal comes. With both Burns goals you get exactly that - you can see the space he is in and you know that if we can get the ball out to him we have a great chance - both times he absolutely nailed it.
