Was thinking about that; pre mobile phones how did the Gallowsys coach driver find out game was off? Pre arranged phone call to make at grantham services? Or just listening to the radio on the way up?

From memory, they had the radio on at the front of the coach we were on and it was announced on there, probably the old school Radio 2 (pre-5 live). We knew that Grantham was going to be a pit stop and go home.

Ditto, stayed in Travelodge next to ground the night before. Was -5 though, Portsmouth is supposed to be +2c at 3pm.

Discovered on arrival at the car park. And before that Leeds away. Early/mid 90s. Got in the taxi at the train station. “Games off mate” [Post edited 4 Jan 12:43]

| Annoying for the fans who have travelled on 14:51 - Jan 4 with 611 views | Pendejo | Stoke 1987 Got the news at Watford Gap services and headed for Coventry V Sheffield Wednesday, mate's car broke down, a sand glow yellow 1.3 Morris Marina, yeah baby we were travelling in style! Luckily he had breakdown cover, so we got towed to AA at Northampton then relayed back to Ipswich. The guy that took us back to Ipswich continually told us he was a black belt at something or other, 4 lads, late 1980s, that's the way it was. | |

I can recall a home game getting to the ground before finding out. Would have been early 90s I should think. Maybe late 80s.

| Annoying for the fans who have travelled on 15:13 - Jan 4 with 537 views | DJR | An away game at Everton in the 1981/82 season was cancelled less than an hour before kick-off due to snow. Fortunately I was studying in Chester at the time, so the journey back didn't take too long, and it was easy for me to make the replay. This season I have been caught out by the postponements at Blackburn and Portsmouth. I didn't make the rearranged Blackburn game but I may well go to Portsmouth as it's not so far. | Annoying for the fans who have travelled on 15:25 - Jan 4 with 501 views | OldFart71 | The ref should either have inspected yesterday or early this morning. It must be pretty obvious that if you have areas of a pitch where they don't get the sun probably due to stands interrupting sunlight and a weather forecast predicting temperatures of no more than +3 that it wouldn't thaw out. To do an inspection at 11 a.m. is stupidity in the extreme. | | | |

Yep, I was on one of the coaches to Hull, 16th December 1989… I’ve said this before, but it was my first (attempt at an) away game. Coach driver had Radio 2 on, which was the main sport channel in those days - Radio 5 wasn’t born until the following year. Also happened to me for Coventry 1993.

Remember this game well. Went up by train from London and rumours started circulating at Doncaster station that the match was postponed. Consensus was to continue our journey only to be met with a chalk board at Hull station confirming the match was off. Most supporters just changed platforms and returned to London. But without any reserved seats I remember a group of us having to sit on the floor.
