| What's the coldest that you've been at a game? on 13:00 - Jan 5 with 1839 views | gainsboroughblue | Yep. I went too and can vouch for that. Absolutely freezing. The game was also dismal, lost 1-0 and ended our 18 year proud run of always getting past the third round. Honourable mention for a league cup tie v WBA around 2010 too. And no 'coldest game' thread should be without a Boundary Park mention circa 1989/90. (Twice). | |

Yeah that QF against WBA when they had to keep stopping the game to dig the lines out from beneath the snow was pretty brutal, with the wind & snow coming into the SAR from the north.

| What's the coldest that you've been at a game? on 13:10 - Jan 5 with 1756 views | _CliveBaker_ | I went to watch Hannover once in the Bundesliga some years ago and it was without doubt the coldest I've ever been inside a stadium. We walked through thick snow to get there, and then basically sat in a freezer for 90 minutes. Even the currywurst at half time did absolute nothing to take the chill off. You're allowed to take your beer to your seats there because they're normal, and at one point in the 1st half I put my beer down for a few minutes to go for pee, and when I returned and picked it up a layer of ice had started to form on the top. My friends don't believe me but its true. I think it was -10 inside the ground IIRC. | | | |

The large double doors at the back of the away end were left open and the wind whipped through the whole game. I think I was the only person in the postcode not wearing a hat.

Can't recall the exact year, sometime around 1985 maybe it got down to -16. We had a resin pumping to one of the tanks and we stood in the switch room looking through the window to make sure no hoses split whilst it was pumping across. I had longjohns on, a shirts, jumper, overalls and a donkey jacket, plus wellingtons, thick socks and a bobble hat and it was still cold. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That was the game that followed the Anfield replay if I recall, and felt a bit flat. Low-ish crowd, routine win, and as you say, a pretty sickening injury to the Plymouth keeper (collided with a team mate). Chrissy K scored from the resulting collision and couldn't bring himself to celebrate.

That's triggered a memory, I went to that game also, but sat in the main stand, so in the warmth :-) I remember the hail blowing down the full length of the pitch and Richard Wright holding his hands across his face so he could see. [Post edited 5 Jan 13:24]

It got down to about -13c that night, with the 'feels like' temperature hovering closer to -20c. Some of the Lisbon fans in the away end were even brave enough to go topless for some of the game! It got even colder in January 2010, with one weekend dropping to -25c to -30c. It was quite the experience! [Post edited 5 Jan 13:33]

| What's the coldest that you've been at a game? on 13:34 - Jan 5 with 1531 views | Steve_M | I went to Barbarians against Australia at the new Wembley on a December evening in about 2008, everyone sat down with lots of space between the seats. That was bitterly cold, albeit probably my fault for watching rugby. The Wigan game in December 2018, managed to be both wet and really cold in a horrible way. A dire game but was worth it (at the time) for getting a win that season. That's probably the coldest I've been at PR. I was fully expecting Sunday to be absolutely bloody freezing though. | |

Didn’t go to that but did do Bristol Rovers away Jan 85 at a burnt down Eastville. Snow, ice everywhere and it was numbingly cold. Coventry away Dec 92 was desperately cold too. I went with Mrs C after visiting her Leicester cousins and had the mother of all hangovers. Sat in the main stand freezing. I purchased a couple of bovrils at half time and they just about kept us going - the warmth of the cup being far nicer than the heated mud they contained. I think it was that game. Finished a 2-2 draw [Post edited 5 Jan 14:05]

Because it was just hail, lasted 5mins at most. I stood out in it, and it was cold for sure and comedy at times, but ive been to colder games, that's Leicester game with the snow, Millwall in the fog 2 seasons back. Went to a reserve/u21 game and literally froze it was so cold none of us could move after that game, had no feeling in arms, legs, hand, feet, took hours to warm up.

The keeper injury was in the league game, 91/2. The keeper that night was non other than Peter Shilton. Think Steve McCall might have been in their side too? And there was NO Bovril in the North stand!

Actually, think it was the defender who broke his leg not the keeper in that collision. Shilton and McCall played in the cup game the following season which was an evening game. Thompson put one in the top corner from somewhere near the halfway line helped by Shilton being well past it at that that stage.
