| That Maidstone game on 20:21 - Jan 12 with 1580 views | Dubtractor | No. Was actually thinking about that on Saturday, after Palace lost, and remembering how lots on here were wailing about how we'd be reminded of it every year as one of the great giant killings. Here we are 2 whole years later and outside of Ipswich and Maidstone absolutely no one remembers it or cares about it. | |

Except, we might have done better by not being promoted that season. All complete speculation, of course.

| That Maidstone game on 20:39 - Jan 12 with 1460 views | Bigalhunter | I will admit the bitter sting of shame that lunchtime lasted about a day and a half, nowhere as long as the 9 nil vPL stuffing from Man Utd, but… However, like most cup shocks these days, it very quickly becomes yesterday’s news. The Hereford win over Newcastle in the 70’s got regurgitated for twenty odd years every FA Cup third round day. I doubt anyone who watches the ridiculous amount of footy on tv these days even remembers the Maidstone game now. A bit of a rambling way of saying I couldn’t give a toss about it now and would never swap what followed for a few hours of humiliation on every iteration of national news that day. I actually can’t be arsed to check whether that launched their season or even whether the same guy who was managing them that day, and came across very well, is even still in charge…or even what happened to the dopey lad who rolled off the roof.. | |

As is the American way, would have sued him into oblivion. Whiplash, back pain, neck pain, trauma, ptsd, now afraid of large crowds. That’ll be $2million please.

I think if we're honest it wasn't as much of a 'giant' killing as we probably thought. It won't go down in history.

We went on to do alright that season and we didn’t even play badly in the match. Was just a freak result where we dominated and created chances albeit only scoring 1 while they entered our half 2 times and scored both times.

To be fair, after the chat about the atmosphere recently, they made some noise on the day. Having the whole top of the stand in unison worked for them.

That was still an embarrassing result and let’s not forget we were at home too!!

I will happily admit that I declared that day, I never wanted to see Walton in goal for us ever again. I don’t even remember whether he should have really stopped either of their two efforts but I’ll now be moaning like hell if he has to make way for Palmer. Just goes to show how things can change. Hopefully young Macateer will prove me equally wrong.

I've never heard away fans at Portman Road celebrate a goal as loudly as they did that day.

And we were in a run of poor results at the time, winning only 1 out of 9 league games. We were still in 4th place, 4pts behind Southampton & 3 behind Leeds, but we lost only 2 of our last 17 league games.

| That Maidstone game on 22:27 - Jan 12 with 890 views | ParisBlue | At the time when we were chasing an equaliser, I remember thinking "score either 2 goals, or none - do not score 1". We did not want a replay. Whilst slightly embarrassing it didn't bother me too much given where we were coming from. As a club and supporter base we were so united. 23/24 was the season of dreams (even if we did lose to a level 6 non-league side....and one of the biggest FA Cup shocks based on league position of all time) | |

| That Maidstone game on 23:23 - Jan 12 with 730 views | stonojnr | nope, losing to Accrington Stanley hurt more than that game did as we were live on tv to the whole nation being rubbish. Maidstone nah, it was annoying but the league was always more important. | | | |

How come Luton beating Norwich in 2013 never gets bought up? Prem team knocked out by non league on their own ground. Think it should be highlighted!
| That Maidstone game on 08:46 - Jan 13 with 371 views | SomethingBlue | No, and besides it was pretty funny wasn't it. Not as if our lads no-showed, just an absolute freak. I didn't understand anyone who said they felt humiliated etc etc afterwards. [Post edited 13 Jan 8:46]

Indeed, that says everything about the status of the FA Cup these days. And they STILL keep replaying Ronnie Radford's screamer for Hereford against Newcastle, as the BBC keep flogging the nearly dead horse. The other thing is that most "non league" teams have been in & out of the Football League at least once these days. When Macclesfield beat Palace I didn't know if they were still in the FL or not. And so many of the PL clubs play severely weakened teams in the cup.
