Good god yes. He’s a slow cart horse with little technical ability and no eye for goal. Very rarely gets an assist either. If we were in for him (I doubt that for a minute) it’s a bullet dodged. I’d much rather persevere with Azon, as Hirst will be back before long too. |  |

He was a handful for QPR to be fair, but yeah he's not at the level we need. If we're going to sign anyone they need to be demonstrably better than what we've already got. In Hirst, Akpom and Azon we're not short of numbers for a side that plays 1 through the middle. Whether we're short of quality and goals is open to debate, but its hard to argue he would be an improvement. |  | | |

I'd argue that coming up against teams that park the bus / low block us, we need to evolve our tactics and have a locksmith at No.9, not someone with a battering ram.
Thought Akpom played it smart against Blackpool's back 5 - dropped deep to find space to get on the ball, linked up play pretty well, and forced their defenders to decide whether to go with him or hold their shape. Would love to see Szmodics given an opportunity in the 9 role too against packed defences, as I think of the 4 strikers he has the cleverest movement in the box, and also the best at getting shots off quickly.
If we do manage to go up this season, I'm in full agreement we need a physical No.9 with pace and power to cope in the Prem, but it's going to be hard to find one of that calibre willing to play in the Championship. |  |
