Pre match Light show 15:08 - Jan 21 with 1533 viewspingu67

I don't want this to sound moany, just a slight concern regarding the pre match light show

I think it looks great for a night game, but I am concerned that it could potentially have some side implications for anyone who suffers from Epilepsy as it would be terrible if it had a negative impact on anyones health

I'm sure the club have fully considered this but as I say just a slight concern

I did note that there was a message on the screens shortly beforehand, warning about the planned use of flashing lights and pyrotechnics. It would certainly benefit from an announcement as well, though.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I must admit, I missed the message on the screen, I was probably probably playing with my phone at the time

Yes there was a message on the screen before the light show last night. My daughter suffers from epilepsy and actually had a seizure in the toilet after the game. Not saying that this was caused by the light show as she is having them on a regular basis at the moment but would like to mention how good the stewards and St John Ambulance staff were in assisting my wife in dealing with the situation.
Have e-mailed the club today so that they can pass on our thanks to those people involved.

Glad to hear she was well looked after, hope she's feeling OK.

Yes she has recovered well and is fine today thanks. She has recently had a brain scan and is waiting for a 24 hour EEG so that her neurologist can then decide if her medication needs to be changed.

The thing is, if there wasn’t a light show or those fire canonns, nobody and I mean nobody would be asking for them. All most fans want is an audible PA system.

And yet, some excitable sports/event marketing fantasist managed to get in front of multiple football execs and convince them to spend money on this most disposable and unnecessary thing.

There are messages on pre-match emails and messaging.
Signs at every entrance (an in other areas) of the ground
Several messages on the screens (and I thought there was an announcement) leading up to kick off.

not sure much else you can do

Personally I wouldnt have any of this guff, fire, confetti, light show.

PS Sorry to hear of the incident with the fans daughter, hope all is well.

As soon as one club does something, everyone else has an urge to copy regardless of whether it is any good. Surely this sort of thing only appeals to young kids or "casual" fans who aren't that into football? It's not a big deal but I can't say it does anything for me.

Not for everyone but I quite like the flames and the fireworks, and the light shows aren’t as bad as people make out, the kids love it innit.

Light shows and pyros can do one as far as I'm concerned, but then I am 50.

They're probably desperately trying to create some energy in there, maybe the rich influx of Gez Z post grads for Halo will help!

Everyone on this thread are far too polite.

Say it like it is, they're utter dogsh1t

The Americanisation of football might be an Ashton wet dream but for the traditional fan they're just one more step towards turning football into the sanitised bollox it's become.

I've stopped going to Wembley to watch England precisely because of that, hope Portman Rd never becomes an "experience" like that. I might be old and grumpy but if you want my money, such crp makes you far less likely to see it....

They had one of the mascots screaming into the mic reading the teams out last night. You can imagine how loud that was.

My son suffers from the fireworks too, so stay downstairs every match until it all stops.

My concern about this was that the lights in the stands were turned off for this while people were still finding their seats. A bit of a health and safety issue perhaps...along with the fact that any emergency announcement would not be heard due to the lack of any functioning PA where I sit.

I recall you were recently mildly in favour of half and half scarves also. If you start your own YouTube channel it will officially be over!

Yes, always said it’s a good souvenir, we got a few last season but they didn’t do them for everyone game and the plan was to get one for every game - not for me obviously - very much a buy it then chuck it in the bag thing though.

The rage bait would get hits though.

I could kinda buy into the "Americanisation" of the game at Portman Road if they actually did it properly

Vendors bringing me beer to my seat, snacks freely available on the terraces, decent legroom

The glitz without the service is a sad halfway, neither fish nor fowl

But on that freezing night when we beat Chelsea, the warmth from the flamethrowers was very welcome
