| Jesus, get a grip 17:38 - Jan 31 with 2725 views | seblue78 | We’re not making top two. We’re useless. We’ll be lucky to make the playoffs. Two games ago we were gonna win the league. The amount of negative weirdos on here who immediately seem get off on any sort of poor result. We’re a point closer to Cov who are wobbling badly. Boro have sheff u and Cov away next two. Weve still got boro, hull and Millwall to come at PR. And two of our most creative players are due back shortly. Yes it wasn’t great, but get a f’in grip. | | | | |

I don’t think the OP is complaining about discussions. It’s the all out negativity from some that is really unnecessary. Two of our best players returning from injury soon, a couple of very good transfer acquisitions this week, a game in hand and over Three months of football left to make up Seven points. Keep the faith.

Yeah, the result was poor as was the performance and I don’t see many positives from it, especially after last week, wanted a better reaction. I think the worry is that you take last week as the starting point that was likely our easiest game for about 6 weeks. Certainly not out of it, those threads are over the top and I’ve not got involved with that line of thought. Just staying in touch in Feb will be the key. Hopefully full strength side and couple of new signings clicking by March. [Post edited 31 Jan 19:25]

It’s not about discussing a bad performance. That’s fine. But certain posters genuinely seem to revel in it. Even before the final whistle in some cases. It’s very odd. A bit of context at times maybe. We’re a couple of results away from the top two. We’ve made two decent acquisitions and will hopefully add a striker. We’ve two of our most creative starters to come back. And all of our main competitors other than Cov have to come to PR where I’d fancy us against anyone. Just relax a bit with the weird negativity.

The middle ground is a place where it is acknowledged that we are not one of the two best teams in the division, and that our modal away result is a loss. These facts are relevant to (a) our chances of ending up in the playoffs rather than the top 2, and (b) our chances of getting promoted via the playoffs, a process with only one home match.

To say we are not where you would want us to be or expect us to be with our investment, and flagging our poor away record is deemed “negative” though - despite it being clear and evident.

It's not that which is being complained about though is it. What's not going down well (as highlighted by this particular thread) are the completely ott posts moaning that we're not even going to make the playoffs etc. etc. On 31st January ...

When you've had to sell your two best players and then had you next two best players get injured you're going to struggle. 6 wins and 2 draws in the last 10 is dreadful but we do have mitigating circumstances to explain it. No hyperbole in "Looking a shadow of a L1 team that came before and got promoted" is there? Genuine question, do you think that if we were playing Hladky, Davis, Burgess, Woolfenden, H Clarke, Donacien, Morsy, Luongo, Taylor, Sarmiento, Broadhead, Chaplin, Burns, Taylor, Harness and Moore now we would be doing better than we are? That squad came up with confidence and had Hutchinson added. Many fans were in meltdown because we were dropping away from Leeds and Leicester, and Southampton and Derby were catching us at this stage that season too. Maybe we could have done better with the money we spent when we got promoted to the Premier League but the idea we have gone backwards since 2 seasons ago is an over-statement.

This group are a shell of the back to back boys, undoubtedly - the cohesion, connection and chemistry of the group was something you very rarely, once you’ve got it you hold on to it. You watch the group, individuals, just a group of individuals, no connection with each other, no bond to the fans, and haven’t really delivered performance levels to back up the astronomical investment in the squad by Championship standards. Football isn’t an individual sport, it’s a team sport - the team that came before was special, mentality monsters, and they backed it up with performances. This point 2 years ago, we were on 62 points, 2nd behind Leicester but ahead of newly relegated Saints and Leeds. 2 years on we 11 points worse off, chasing two non parachute payment clubs down and having spent over £125m to build this squad. Do not forget that season was a much tougher one than this, the standard this year has been woeful. I would suggest everything indicates we have certainly gone backwards.

Realistically we’ve not shown we are capable of the kind of run we’d need to catch and overtake the top 2 - especially given our away form and run of games away from PR. Back to back winless games and no goals from open play - of course people will be critical. [Post edited 1 Feb 10:24]

Didn't we already catch and overtake Boro a few weeks ago? So I'm not sure the claim we've not shown we're capable of that really stands up to even the slightest scrutiny.

In the context of Boro not scoring for four games, plus a run stacked with home games. We now have a month of away games where our record is 14th in the league. I’d say there’s little evidence we won’t be further away from top 2 after those 4 aways.

Re our away v home record - in a word - Philogene. Significant that his injury prevented him from being involved yesterday.
