| MASSIVE DAY on 09:26 - Feb 2 by pointofblue | Ivanovic or Vipotnik are just two names I'd be happy to sign. No guarantees but trying is enough for me. It's why I'm not critical of the Akpom signing. It hasn't worked out but I can at least see what we were/are trying to do. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. |
Zero chance Millwall are selling Ivanovic to a promotion rival at this point.

| MASSIVE DAY on 09:45 - Feb 2 by Whos_blue | Is it a massive day though? I suspect it is for some people here rather than the club. If we see no signings today is the season written off? |
By no means written off. We're 7 points off top with 17 matches to go (and a game in hand on Cov and Boro). Well within the play-off places. In a very good position to fight for promotion. In any case, we have already made probably our most important signing of the winter - Mehmeti as a link-up man to stand in for Nunez and rotate with him once the latter is fit again. That is far more key to how we play than strike rates from the no. 9 position.

| MASSIVE DAY on 09:13 - Feb 2 by Matt_Netherlands | What annoys me the most, is that we haven’t just had January to fix this. We’ve own since April that Delap would 100% be leaving and that AAH wasn’t good enough to step up. Ali was always going to leave and so Azon took his place in the squad. We’ve created this problem ourselves by not signing another striker in the summer. Instead we wasted (strong, I know) resources on signing two right backs when we already had a PL experienced RB in the squad, and the best part of £30m on two right wingers who have failed to make any sort of impact. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we’ve known this is an issue for the best part of a year now. |
It’s an uppie from me. | |

For a club like Millwall, he'll have his price. I imagine £12m would do it. Especially if it unsettles Ivanovic enough to the extent he asks for a move.

| MASSIVE DAY on 09:50 - Feb 2 by pointofblue | For me, yes. Hirst is seriously out of form, Akpom isn't favoured and it's too much of a burden to expect Azon to carry. We need to try something to help us convert more of our chances. If we don't, as it stands, it appears to be play offs at best. And whether we have enough to get over the line against fellow play off teams is a big question too - unless it's Coventry! |
I understand the clamour for some help up front but I also think much of that is supporter based rather than from within the club. As the chant goes "he knows exactly what we need". If KM wants a striker, MA will finance a suitable deal. The problem for me is that we bandy around around names like kids in a sweet shop. "We want that one, we want that one". If we get a striker in and they don't perform how we think they should, then what? Start clapping them sarcastically like we do with Hirst? As I said. I understand the interest but if it doesn't work out we have to get behind who is here and not catastrophise what may or may not happen over the next 17 games.

| MASSIVE DAY on 10:18 - Feb 2 with 597 views | bsw72 | I don't really feel it's that massive - would be nice to sign a goalscorer, but if we don't sign one and retain the squad which has stumbled our way into 4th, only 7 points off the top and yet to see our best consistently, we are no worse off and I am optimistic as to getting promotion. I understand people will have different views though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I don’t know why we didn’t go for him in the summer. I said back then he was ideal for our number 9 position. Kieran is too obsessed with number 10s, and they haven’t worked out well recently, mainly because Sammy and Chuba do not play that type of roll that they are being forced into.

This will sound blunt, but this was the attitude under Evans as well. Until we realised it was leading us to utter disaster but by that point it was too late. We are nowhere near that point yet. But this is a huge opportunity to get someone in who can help us this season. Nothing is a guarantee. The new signing may pick up an injury in his first game, or fail to hit the heights we expect. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't take a swing at this point. We're creating but we're not converting. It could be the difference between promotion and at the very least one more year at this level. And next year, considering who will seemingly be coming down with, at the very least, one of Birmingham and Wrexham spending highly, is likely to be much tougher. We're so close. Let's do everything we can to get over the line.

| MASSIVE DAY on 09:00 - Feb 2 by homer_123 | I think this is the interesting observation. We don't play football that focuses our high quality goal scoring opportunities on our lone striker. KM clearly and evidently sets us out so that goals can be scored by 'all' of the front four. Now, there is a lot to be said for the fact that the 'left' has provided those goals this season, but the right and the central attacking midfield role far less so than in other seasons. Yes, it would be good to have a striker that is more clinical but we actually play in a way the requires goals from all of those four and the right has been poor in delivering those, worse maybe than the striker and central attacking midfielder? |
Yep. If we weren’t scoring from elsewhere I’d be more worried. The right is letting the side down a bit, but hopefully now Wes is back in that’ll help. Mehmeti should offer a few more than Nunez from the middle. Don’t get me wrong, it’d be great to also have a CF banging them in. It possibly could be the difference between autos and not, but not necessarily. In hindsight and after all the links from the summer, it might have been worth going for McBurnie. He’s the closest to a KM type, being mobile and ok at holdup play. But he’s also a natural goalscorer. I wasn’t sure whether he still had it, but he obviously does.

| MASSIVE DAY on 10:30 - Feb 2 with 510 views | Vaughan8 | Agree. We need to get someone else in, if only for the meltdown on here if we don't Hirst is so out of form. We can't wait for him to start scoring Azon the same as is raw. Is he going to get say even 5 goals between now and the end of the season? I doubt it. Akpom - I have no idea where he fits in. Personally i'm not sure why we haven't at least given Smozdics a go up front. He played that role for Blackburn. However I understand that was very much in a different type of team. | | | |

Yeah Hirst has never been prolific- it’s not his job but for me his hold up play isn’t hitting the levels he’s been at, and too often his first touch has been poor and we’ve conceded possession. Not sure whether it’s a confidence thing as he looked better pre season and in the first few games.

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with your last line, I must admit I do not see the correlation with the Evans era at all They were dark dark days. The club bears no resemblance to that mess now.

We're not scoring enough from elsewhere. Clarke, Philogene and Hirst are the only scorers to net more than five goals, and Clarke and Philogene play the same position. Mehmeti may help in that regard, but the way we're creating needs someone more reliable up top. It would be nice to have something similar on the right but, after the money spent, I think we're reliant on Burns.

The early days weren't dark exactly. We didn't utilise the transfer market correctly when we had the financial advantage and it took a downturn off the back of it.

The meltdown will be justified IMO.. people seem to forget we had Ali Al Hamadi coming on as a striker last season in the PREMIER LEAGUE.. We've needed a capable striker for near on 2 years and STILL havent got one. I wish we would use some of our obsession with wingers to fork out on a proper number 9.
