I think that the further we are away from the far right politics of the 1930's and the effects it had in the world, the more people seem comfortable to engage in language that hasn't been acceptable for several generations.
And even though that sort of racist language may have been whispered behind closed doors it was very much taboo in public. Now racists are more openly racist and attracting the younger generations. | |

Completely agree with the last paragraph especially. It's already here and it's not even close. Farage wouldn't go for this, nor would any reform politicians. Labour Tory lib dem green all would go. They'd have to.
It's the post truth world or whatever you want to call it and it's not a level playing field. The right know they can brush off pretty much anything and the support won't waver, the centre or anything approaching left have to have little things like accountability and a vague sense of decency. Then the right can equate stuff like open racism and similar about refugees, to stupidly messing up tax claims or similar and it will be 'they're all the same'.
