If Boro win on Monday night, although Cov would fall to second, it might strangely benefit them as the pressure of leading is obviously affecting them. Going top might then start to adversely affect Boro’s form.

At this stage I’m just pleased if we can continue to close the gap on both Cov and Boro and then snatch an auto spot later in the season when it’s too late for others to respond although not good for those with a nervous disposition.

Poll: After 20 games where will Town be in the table?

The only good result IMO is a draw. If we win our games in hand, that's a two-point deficit made up on both in one game. If we can turn the Autos into a genuine 3/4-way fight that's better for us.

I don't think Coventry are feeling the pressure of being top so much as they are struggling to keep up their early season form without the strength in depth from their squad. Expect their fortunes to improve but hopefully too late for them to stay in the automatics.

Middlesborough are a different proposition as the change of manager forced upon them when Rob Edwards left back in November seems to have been successfully transitioned. The home match against them could be the dreaded title decider.

Surely we want Sheffield Utd to win given they are 15 points behind us. A draw there would be a good result for Middlesbrough.

Sorry I misinterpreted the initial post. Thought they were talking about Cov Vs Boro next week. Obviously Sheff Utd win on Monday is great for us.

Coventry’s next game is home to Middlesbrough. Can’t see how Boro going above them does anything other than to increase the pressure.

The last time Town were promoted as Champions was. 1991/92 with 84 points. While it will need a few points more, my guess is 87, I believe it will be Ipswich’s year to take the crown with Boro second or 3 or 4 points less. Exactly as it was in summer of 1992.

Sixteen games to go, 10 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats should do it. Three games I wouldn’t want us to lose are Boro & Hull at home and that lot up the A140.

I’ve just been looking at Boro’s fixtures. Unpredictable league and the Coventry result yesterday shows that what seem to be the relatively straight forward games can be very tricky but after tomorrow they have two very tough away games (us and Cov). Other than that their run in is about as good as any team could want.

I think the league becomes even more unpredictable the more it goes on.
More injuries. Fatigue. But also clubs are playing for things. Many for play offs. Some fighting off the bottom 3.

Boro for example like we found when nunez got injured.. if Hackney or Morris get injured it could really effect them.

Mathematically it’s back in our hands owing to us having a game against Boro and Cov and Boro still to play each other.

Ultimately we just need to look after our own business. We’re 6 points off the 2ppg mark, but we were 5 points off that after 4 games. Last 26 games we’ve picked up 51 points. 2ppg from here would see us to 86 points which I imagine would be enough for top 2. We’ve got some tricky games, but so has everyone else. Continuing our form since the end of August doesn’t feel a ridiculous ask with the squad we’ve got.

Felt all season that if (when) Town get to the top spot we wouldnt be caught - it may well be the last day of the season but now the circus of the transfer window is out of the way I am convinced that the quality we have will play out over the 46 games. We are so close to the top 2 now and feel like we are still on the bridle. Bookmark this to hit me at the end of the season but thats my thoughts!

Ideally we need the blades to win,
Coventry and Boro draw,
Then we have two games on them when we go to Wrexham,
Then we're right back in the mix albeit have to at least four points from the two in hand games, get six it's back in our destiny,

A draw?! Sheffield Utd are 15th, they're not a threat. A draw is acceptable but surely the best result is a Blades win!?

EDIT: See you've answered this further down.

A utd win and a Hackney red card for violent conduct followed by a red to Morris for slapping the ref.

It’s already in our destiny.

If Cov beat Boro we’re 4 behind Boro with a game in hand and we’re still to play them.
If they draw we’re 5 behind Boro with a GIH and still to play them.
If Boro win we’re 5 behind Cov with 2 games in hand.

Naff all we can do about other teams, just need to do our business including beating Boro.

Lots to play for over the next few months, autos, potentially the title, double over Norwich and win the FA Cup. Easy. COYB.

Millwall aren’t going away either so they may still be in with a chance of the autos as well.

About as good a run in as any team could want (bearing in mind you have just taken out their matches against 1st and 3rd) ...

Millwall (5th) H
Wrexham (6th) A on final day
Bristol City (8th - won at Hull yesterday) H
Birmingham (A)

Relegation-threatened Oxford (drew with Coventry yesterday) H, Blackburn (A), Portsmouth (H) and West Brom (H)

would all suggest not.

Even those so-called easier games against mid-table nothing-to-play-for sides often aren't that easy.

hull are overachieving on all their metrics, and have just dropped 5 points in 2 of the kindest home matches they can expect to face.

if we want to worry about a 3rd team to challenge, i'd be looking at millwall
