If you're still working and you vote for Reform you really have a screw loose

Do we not have the right to request to work from home?

It doesn't matter to me, I am fully remote. Never met any of my colleagues in person in 5 years. I am just wondering what comes next.

You can certainly request it but you don’t have the right to demand it.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

So it's an attack on workers' rights then. We have the right under the law to request it and the business has to try and accommodate it. Reform would almost certainly scrap that so we would be losing a right.

You have the right to request it you say? Without it harming your employment? And the right for the employer to give it proper consideration and to turn it down only if it is reasonable that they cannot accommodate it? Is that what you mean by we don't have the right to demand it by any chance?

I couldn’t really do it in my role remote anyway but working from home sucks and reminds me of crappy days of Covid. I much real face to face interaction and meetings with co-workers and clients than Teams calls. I don’t mind the odd Monday or Friday to not go in but I don’t think it’s particularly healthy to barely see anyone outside those you live with and log on at home all the time. It would drive me mental. Also it’s nice to come home and separate it from your working day.

Each to their own and if some people prefer it and find a company that offer it, then fair enough. We have some in other pillars that are on remote contracts that moved during the pandemic but promotions and new roles are really only being offered in markets where we have an office. Also fair enough really. Seems like hybrid is the sweet spot for a lot companies with operations in major cities.

The Halo guy was talking about the importance of it in the interview I read recently, which I agree with, especially when it comes to development, building culture and growth. When you're employing a lot of young people you need it I think.

It got to be better for you to mix with people in the workplace.

I used to work in an owner of a business persons garden and he’d work from home some days,it went something like this.

9am turn on computer
9.30 take dog for a walk.
10.30. Come home have a cup of tea talk to the wife.
11.30 turn the computer off.
12.00 out for lunch.

The same sort of pattern in the afternoon.

Interesting that despite admitting you've got no idea what you're talking about on this topic that you're still continuing to give your view on it.

I think you’ll find that view in the comments section of the Daily Mail.

At least there is the (not particularly nice) prospect of watching the Reform voters harming themselves even more than those they think they are sticking it to by voting in Farage.

An act of self harm that makes Brexit look like gentle practice in comparison.

I don’t know what you and J2 are arguing with me for? You can request it; your employer can refuse it. That’s literally what I’ve said. You don’t have a right to work from home.

I think your final paragraph is very important to a lot of businesses. Not all though. I know people who work for firms without fixed offices and they’re doing fine.

I’m home based but travel to our offices all over the country as my team is increasingly dispersed these days - I never recruit to a fixed location. I agree with a lot of the rest of your post with regards myself as I like the mix. Sometime at home and some out and about.

Long and short is that Farage can’t do anything in this space. It’s up to the employer what sort of environment and culture they choose to establish. Not some work shy politician who never visits his constituency.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Shouldn’t you have been working instead of slacking off and spying on your client? Strange stalker type of behaviour that.

You've never even worked in an office you eejit. I have a lot more experience of office work versus home working than you. I've also read the research on this. You're basing your view off vibes and slacking off to spy on one client when you should have been gardening.

It’s just basic selfishness the old ‘I didn’t have it so I don’t see why others should have it’ attitude.

A bit like people with no kids in the car who park in the parent and child spaces. The world is getting more and more selfish with people strangely invested into it.

It's the classic sneering at the younger generations. He didn't have the opportunity so why should anyone else? Doesn't impact him at all but going to support it just out of spite.

People like him would rather make their own lives worse just to stick it to other people as well.

That's still no excuse for the poor job you did on my hedgerow.
Also i had to take a long liquid lunch everyday just to get outta the house, as was uncomfortable with the sight of you constantly bent over in yer tight shorts and string vest while slowly tending to the rose bushes.
