What actually was it? Very odd.
At our place first half they played some nice stuff. Then second half decided to just sit for the point and stop any of the good football they’d played and go rigid and defensive. Fine. Not a problem. Got them a point tbf.
But today I have actually got no idea what they were trying to do. They repeatedly just hoofed it up to the big striker but it was obvious very early on that he wasn’t beating Dara or Kipre in the air. They didn’t try to move it wide with pace at any stage and never attacked with runners in behind. I literally have no idea how they were ever expecting to score a goal.
Genuinely the most comfortable I’ve ever felt in an away end when 1-0 up with 25 minutes to go.
Baffing tactically. Credit our lads for the performance and the way we set up but my word I’d be worried if I was a Watford fan seeing a new manager have a team play like that. Which was frankly nothing. |  |

I think the plan was to frustrate, contain and make the game 25 minutes instead of 90. They were probably a bit too scared of us. |  |

It was very negative wasnt it. With our recent record of results when going behind (and off of the back of Wrexham) you'd have thought they would have thrown everything at us for the first fifteen to twenty minutes! Them just sitting in played right in to our hands and as you say, we seemed pretty comfortable. |  | | |

We went to the Mad Squirrel in Wattord last night before the game and I thought of you.
In very large fluorescent letters on the wall were the words.

I was very confused by their game plan. Given their form and league position, notwithstanding the fact they were at home, they were incredibly passive. Seemed content to let us play. Improved slightly in the second half but marginal.
Also, is Watford's attendance always that bad? More seats than people. |  | | |

Not sure if it was their game plan or inability to execute it, but they were very timid and showed us too much respect I thought. The best way to do a number on us feels like its to get us in a scrap, get in our faces, press us aggressively, leave a boot in. They didn't do any of it, kept the crowd flat and let us get control of the game from the outset. Really passive from them. |  | | |

They set up like an away side first half. Lots of numbers behind the ball, not pressing high up the pitch but trying to make it hard for us to play through them. Second half they were a bit more on the front foot but still looked fairly timid and worried about us catching them on the break. They aren't a very good team on last night's evidence. |  |

Not a clue. They didn't look very good. The end of the game when they had to come at us, they got a bit of joy but I think that's more to do with us backing off than them doing much different.

My thoughts precisely. Great idea to stand off a team and let them play, when that team is the best in the league at exploiting those circumstances. I don't forsee that happening too much over the last 14 games! | | | |

I think they gave us too much respect in the first half. Still showed his management skills at half time as the second half was very different. Although, after we scored our second, they resorted to the dark arts and thuggery. How the hell did they not see red. | | | |
