Here am I from 'sleepy Suffolk' dating a true cockney born West ham fan living in East London mid 90s. Her best friends husband gave me a ticket for his team, Millwall's Wembley final against Wigan. Still remember the journey, early Sunday morning from Barking (?) station into central London and every train arriving full of Millwall supporting fans. Was there 50,000 millwall fans and 6-7 thousand Wigan?

Dunno where all those die hard Millwall fans are every week then. Average home attendance 16,919. Perhaps there'll all down the docks, sharpening up their meat hooks for the PO final. Wouldn't be a good look for Sky TV and the EFL if they behaved like they did in the 70s.

The home match after they got to the FA Cup Final, midweek match against maybe Cardiff, there were only around 10,000 there. I was living in New Cross at the time and the day of the final, it felt deserted. Like most clubs, there's a lot of latent support that is interested but not bothered about going regularly - well unless they have a bit of success.

Think they are too busy banging on about no one liking them when in actual fact no one gives a damn about them.
| Fair play millwall on 08:46 - Feb 26 with 1333 views | DJR | I don't think Millwall are anything like they used to be. Many of their one-time hooligan element will be in their 60s or older, and Bermondsey and Rotherhithe have been gentrified to a large extent these last 40 years, so the pool of replacements to draw on is much reduced. The docks like Greenland Dock have long since been gentrified. | | | |

to call Bermondsey gentrified is like calling Ipswich dock the Monaco of East Anglia. Its not entirely false but its still quite a poor area. A lot of metal bars on windows but also it has the beer mile which is rather good fun!

I'm not saying it doesn't have its problem areas, but I came across this (which isn't even up to date) to indicated how things have changed. "In 1971 there was only a very small proportion of Bermondsey inhabitants who could be classified as middle class just 4.1% a lower percentage that the Southwark average of 7.0%. Moreover, the growth in Bermondsey s middle class happened later than in the rest of London. In 1981 middle class groups comprised 9.8% of the population, but the proportion had more than tripled to 30.5% by 1991, and by 2001 was close to the average for London 32.4% compared to 34.2% for London. Finally, it is worth noting that much of the proportionate growth until 1991 was in the lower middle classes (SEGs 5.1 and 5.2). The traditional upper middle classes (SEGs 1 to 4) made up just 15.7% of the total in 1991, compared to 22.5% in London. However it is in the proportion of the upper middle classes that Bermondsey saw the most growth since 1991, so that by 2011 they comprised 19.0% of the total, compared to 16.8% in both Southwark and London." I also came across figures that suggest that 43% of the Bermondsey population identify as non-white, a group which I imagine is unlikely to engage in the quaint British tradition of football hooliganism. And I had an accountant friend who lived for a number of years at Greenland Quay, not the sort of person who would have lived in the area 50 years ago. It is also to be noted that Bermondsey had a Liberal Democratic MP from 1983 to 2015 which I think it part reflected its increasing gentrification. All of this illustrates the point I was making, namely, that there is a much smaller pool of potential hooligans to draw on. [Post edited 26 Feb 9:17]

I worked in Bermondsey on a Friday lunch time we’d go for a pint in a pub called ‘The Gregorian’ There was also a cracking Cafe near by on Jamaica (no she wanted to) Rd.

| Fair play millwall on 10:00 - Feb 26 with 1076 views | OldFart71 | Personally I'd call it crazy. But it is what it is. I think any team that gets promoted this year is either going to have to spend big or be very lucky. Town needs another half a dozen players to be competitive in the Prem. Defensive wise I think we would need another keeper who is a cut above what we have, Fullback cover both sides or even better ones. A couple of midfield player, one alongside Matisuwa and another as cover. And a centre forward. | | | |

Times have changed considerably, I remember the days when the North Stand had a cage down the middle because you had two sets of animals either side of it. Of course there are still elements of the past running through all clubs. When people lived in caves, hunted animals and probably battered each other with clubs that instinct never truly left the human race. Wars show how men even today rape and pillage . Not something we want to see or tolerate in the UK, but it happens in Ukraine and in other countries. As for Millwall once you have a reputation it's difficult to get rid of. Even though it was like Beirut at the Den in 78 I don't hold grudges and wish them well.Although not too well if it's at our detriment.

Exactly what I experienced at their play off final v Bradford. Day trippers off their nuts having a go at everybody before and after. Dread to think what would have happened if they'd lost.
| Fair play millwall on 11:21 - Feb 26 with 872 views | Edmundo | There's always an outlier in the top 6, but generally otherwise GD is a strong indicator of position. That's why I think we'll finish above them, Hull and potentially Boro too. | |
