Robbing fuel companies will soon whack that through at the pump.

Funny how when prices are reported to have dropped, they say they can’t put them down accordingly as they buy in advance, but will put them up for any excuse.

At the moment it’s largely due to logistics and the choking off of shipping, but the longer it goes on the more long term damage it will cause. When it filters through to inflation I expect his politically motivated attacks on the Fed will start again.

Heating oil went up from 63PPL at the start of feb to 139PPL last week and is estimated to reach as much as 199PPL in the next couple of weeks. Diesel fuel prices will follow that very quickly. Is Trump trying to deliberately crash the World economy and cause rampant inflation? While targeting innocent civilians in bombing raids in Iran and Lebanon and expecting the UK to help him out in the killing!
I was told by a USAF serviceman a while ago that one the reasons the US sets off on bombing raids from bases around The World is so that any retaliation is targeted back at those Countries the bombers took off from and not the USA. I am not sure how true this but it could well be. But he is desperate to get us directly involved in bombing raids.

And here I sit again with my Electric ZEB boiler, Electric car and faith in renewables looking on at the newest oil war and oil crisis wondering when it will sink in for folks.

Governments have got the Green renewables public strategy wrong, its been given a bad image and caused our electric too be expensive, when in fact it should be easy for people to take advantage of. Still, some people have and those with oil heating and poor MPG cars I feel a bit sorry for, not smugness.

The US energy secretary said the US weren't attacking energy infrastructure and said it was the Israelis.

Clearly already worried about how this is going to play in the US given the Trump ticket was "no more foreign wars" and "lower prices".

Stock market has tanked overnight now too.

Over 7% down in Tokyo

Someone somewhere (probably linked to Trump’s cabinet) will be getting very rich though off the back of this

When will Trump wake up and realise the damage he is about to inflict on the economy by stupidly allowing Netanyahu to set the agenda.

More to the point when will someone speak out and explain why what is happening is so wrong.

Step up to the mark Starmer, Macron et al as no one in the US is going to do it.

Yep, mentioned above that someone is getting rich off this.

Cynical I know, but Putin's oil economy needed it at $70 to make a profit. Convenient eh?

Yep. And i don't know about soon, Diesel has gone up near me at all stations by 5-7p within the last two days. The only allowable ones that do that are the independents who generally don't buy loads in advance, but the supermarkets are definitely taking advantage as they always do on fuel. Need that regulator in ASAP.

Opportunistic, the diesel they're selling today certainly wasn't bought at these prices. Funny how it takes a while to come back down on the other side.

Rising Oil prices will inevitably push up electric as well. Nobody wins here. Not to mention the broader impact on the economy and people's purchasing power.

Heating oils seems to be much more volatile (pun intended!) to these supply shocks. Can you imagine if petrol/diesel went up to £3/ltr; there’d be riots.

Maybe the US uses closer airfields for bombing raids to save on fuel costs! I wouldn’t at all be surprised if what you say is part of the reason. It must be easier to organise timings and the like too.

I’m moving full whack into my solar. Upping capacity, going overboard on batteries, pressurised electric hot water tank(s), changing to electric underfloor heating whenever we renovate a room. I think I’m going to be able to supply all hot water and at least half my heating from solar. We’ll see how it goes, but if I can get rid of the combi I will. Ideally I want to get rid of gas altogether as the standing charge will go then.

Indeed, I’m not sure having an EV in the country with the most expensive electricity in the world is a huge win. Wholesale electric prices will still be driven by the gas baseline so we’re all in it together.

As you say it’ll his businesses too, I saw an estimate of 0.1pc hit to global GDP for every week the conflict goes on - very few winners from this. US production will benefit from the temporary oil price uplift, as well as being able to step in with exports to countries who would normally import from ME (as the did replacing Russian gas). But the wider US economy will suffer a double whammy of more expensive energy, and a weakening greenback making imports more expensive.

Aren't they meant to be changing how electricity prices are set soon?

Isn't it currently set at the highest price of the fuel used to generate it?

The US are massive exporters of Oil, they make a fortune at these levels. But don’t want the input costs, both are true.

Suspect he sees it as transitory and doesn’t care.., gives the oil majors a boost, oil will come down a lot, especially by mid terms BUT it is the trade of the year. Chronic lack of investment means the new normal will be $70 plus for a while.

He’s probably right, higher oil, and strategic challenges for China while China need energy imports and the US are big exporters makes a lot of sense.

While we were all voting to use Chinese slave Labour, and have cheap goods, lower inflation, and lower interest rates. To keep our short term politicians in jobs .., China went and built a long term future where they dominate.

I don’t think anyone in the west knows what’s coming.

They went from behind and happy to buy our debt and fuel our dopamine addiction .., to probably 20 years ahead of the west.

What they’ve done is remarkable. Whether it’s a cultural threat or not, economically they’ve are about to obliterate us with automation, autonomous and efficiency, and skill.

They don’t have the regulations holding them back, or short term political thinking.

Sad that Trump and someone like him, has to see what globalists didn’t care about because they made more money off Chinese slave Labour - China saw our greed and stupidity, and we’ll still have a big price to pay.

They’ve had drone deliveries. Autonomous taxis and robots that can be even shape shift like Terminator for a while. It’s crazy their progress and skill.

We treated them like slaves. Now it’s our turn. They understood our greed and culture better than we understood theirs. The number of liberals buying goods on modern slavery, has always been ‘interesting’. Me included. It’s impossible to avoid. Our need to consume. Theirs to build a culture.

What Trump is doing will slow it down, but we all bought in to our media and politicians acting like sociopaths.

We are where we are for a reason.

It’s still Oil that yields power - ask Cuba. We are so ignorant to what’s coming it’s fascinating.

I’m guessing you understand what happens to the west when ‘cheap made in china’ becomes ‘cheap and quality made in china’

Guess you know Germany converted its car factories to weapons factories to avoid economic collapse.

You see. China won. Now Trump will slow and frustrate them, which will buy time. But they didn’t win because of Trump, they win accuse ALL politicians didn’t care or see th threat to our economies.

It wasn’t about culture, it’s about economics.

The wests manufacturing in quality crumbling will lead to more wars and us eating ourselves. To keep economies going, and save politicians jobs, because that’s what politicians do.

That someone as tribal and power hungry as Trump ‘gets it’ is probably self selecting.

A liberal is ok with the west culture being subverted, and all our jobs lost - they thought we’d always have a quality edge, paradoxically defeated by their xenophobia. The irony.

Anyway. Fun times. More wars and weapons factories to paper over the wests decline, not sure we can blame these ones on Trump .., Ukraine war, keeping it going, not an accident is it. Worth trillions. And keeping Germany and other countries from economic collapse. No manufacturing AND no cheap Russian energy, let’s build weapons .., LOTS (and this is our liberal Europe)

They do make some quality things the Chinese .., better than the Germans in the here and now.

We voted for that buddy.

oil prices did the same at the outset of the Ukrainian war. Settled down after a while. Heating oil seems to spike very quickly, more so than forecourt fuel even allowing for the tax element. The difference in this situation being that the Iran war has the potential to affect supply more so than the Ukrainian where only Russian supply was at stake. The USAF serviceman is being fanciful. The fatigue levels would be high if the US were to solely fly from US bases. Turnaround would be much slower.
