| Saturday going to be really tough, Millwall a McKenna kryptonite team? 10:16 - Mar 20 with 2741 views | unstableblue | Millwall have beasts at the back, go long, break with pace and with a tricky difficult right winger, and dominate the central midfield. That’s kryptonite to McKenna’s selection and style. I expect it’ll be either cagey or well and come out (finally) like a steam train and try and get that crucial early goal. I really can’t call this game. 1-0, 2-1, 4-1…. God knows But a win would be absolutely massive and I think would put us in a really strong position, and put some much needed belief in the Portman Road faithful. Really hope the crowd can get up for it, despite the early start. | |

I think our home advantage gets us over the line but it's going to be tough, their away form is so strong.

And that will play to our strengths too, as both really need to win.

| Saturday going to be really tough, Millwall a McKenna kryptonite team? on 11:15 - Mar 20 with 1959 views | Smoresy | Quite stark how chalk and cheese our rivals are this year. In the left corner you have Middlesbrough, possession and pass masters, best in show in both categories, 480 10+ pass sequences no less (we've recorded 276, for comparison). Then in the right corner you have Millwall, bottom two in pass accuracy, passes per sequence, build-up time, as direct or forward-thinking as teams come essentially, and right at the top for successful crosses. What the teams share, beside points on the board, is a keenness for pressing without possession. They are in the top four for turnovers, top three for speed of engagement, and Millwall are out on their own for volume of fouls committed in a game. Whether they'll look to swarm us high tomorrow or wait until we cross an invisible line on the pitch, we'll soon find out! Last time I saw them was the first half against Hull and they were appalling - Wall commentators said they wouldn't have complained if they were 5-0 down - but of course went on to win somehow. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Saturday going to be really tough, Millwall a McKenna kryptonite team? on 11:58 - Mar 20 with 1730 views | BouncebackIpswich | It's going to be tough for sure. As someone has already said, if we come out and perform as we have done in the first half for the last 3 games, the game could be out of our reach at half time. I understand the concern about being too cavalier giving up chances on the break but ironically by being too cautious we've given teams a foothold in games to go and score the first goal from anyway. I think it will probably be a hard fought 1-1 but make no mistake if Ipswich put in an 8 out of 10 performance or higher, the points are staying at Portman Road, no matter how well Millwall play. | |

If Boro won every game our fans said they'd definitely win, they'd be top on 114 points.

... but I'm hoping that's going to fire up the Lower North And I'm hoping Town might come out with a bit of impetus and energy and momentum for the early goal.... danger is getting caught by a break

You could drop napalm on the lower north and it still wouldn't catch fire.

This is true, but we have struggled to beat teams we ought to beat at times this season, particularly when they play a certain way. An early goal for us would be especially massive in this game. Should McKenna consider an extra body in midfield, perhaps Taylor playing the central #10 role but dropping deep to help Matusiwa & Neil, when out of possession? It's an option that might pay dividends against Brum & Middlesbrough too, as we struggled against both of their midfields in the reverse fixtures. Of course a fully fit Nunez, back in the starting XI, would negate the need.

They’ll see their best chance of winning by deploying their usual tactics. It won’t be really open.

Yeah, not really open, but maybe not as ultra-defensive as some of the other teams who have turned up at Portman Road. They need to win as much as we do. Us getting the first goal changes their gameplan. Them getting the first goal will make it an utterly horrible game [Post edited 20 Mar 13:07]

Indeed and if we are serious about automatics this is simply a home game we have to go and win. I don’t really want to be losing two points on Boro tomorrow and doing all the games in hand stuff and if we beat them etc. Home game against a promotion rival. Need to win it and I think we will.

They score a lot from set pieces and have committed the most fouls in the league. We need a much better first half with some tempo. The longer the game is 0-0 the more do worry about them having the ability to get a result than say when Hull came to town. Also why the risk/reward thing with Philogene is an interesting dilemma considering his first half scoring record in home games. [Post edited 20 Mar 13:13]

Agree, if Philogene is ready for 45 minutes, make that the first 45.
| Saturday going to be really tough, Millwall a McKenna kryptonite team? on 13:54 - Mar 20 with 1145 views | _CliveBaker_ | They're a decent team. Well organised, know what they stand for, execute their game plan well. They're a very Alex Neil side really, he seems to have followed a similar formula for most of his managerial career with differing degrees of success. I don't think Millwall are the easiest on the eye from what I've seen, but they know their roles. Man for man we have more quality, I think if we're on it we'll have too much for them. Tomorrow has the hallmarks of a good performance I reckon. At home on the carpet, conditions look good, no real levellers in that respect. Hopefully that allows us to let the football do the talking. Davis is a big miss, but if we can find a way to take the points tomorrow it will be a great way to go into the break. | | | |

Exactly this. If we have a first half similar to the last three or four then the game may well be over before the second half. Go straight at them and get an early goal.
