| Delap linked to Newcastle 08:23 - Mar 21 with 1749 views | BlueMoon | BBC Gossip says for a rumoured £40m. Does anyone know if we have a sell-on? "Chelsea striker Liam Delap is a potential summer target for Newcastle with a fee of about £40m suggested for the 23-year-old Englishman." | | | | |
| Delap linked to Newcastle on 08:28 - Mar 21 with 1699 views | MattinLondon | MA said that the club was ‘well protected’ despite the £30M release clause. So maybe he meant in terms of future sell-ons. Regardless, considering the rather poor and injury dominated season he’s had - Chelsea making a £10M profit is rather staggering. | | | |

Him leaving via his release clause makes it less likely than if we'd negotiated terms with Chelsea, I can confidently say that.

Less pressure, more playing time etc He had a real chance to push for a world cup place this year too, so such a waste for him. [Post edited 21 Mar 9:06]

We would also have to give Man City their cut.

To my knowledge it's unusual for sell-on clauses to apply to all future sales, in perpetuity as it were. Think they tend to be one-and-done, with the club you did business with. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

...... although none of them are the traditional centre-forward that everyone seems to crave at least, until they have one. And then not always regularly utilised, in the Prem anyway.

Not sure on that. I think they apply to any profit made by the club they originally sold the player to, so if we get another £2m of pure profit from the sell on then it's likely a chunk will be due to City.

We had no choice as soon as Chelsea triggered the release clause and Delap wanted to go. If we have managed to have a sell-on clause included, then that's fantastic negotiation from MA and his team.

He scored 6 goals in his first 11 matches, then 6 in his last 26 matches. He was good, but I think his reputation is based on his initial impact (4 month spell), which then petered out a little.
