The great, great man Marcus Stewart was in town yesterday.... 19:14 - Mar 22 with 1640 viewsFunge

.., in good form, indeed, and kind enough to spend a little time talking with me and a couple mates outside Arcade after the game.

I was quite hacked off about the result; meeting him absolutely made everything better again.

The best striker, one of the best players, in fact, I've ever seen in an Ipswich shirt. What a player he was, what a man he is.

So pleased to see him looking as good as ever. Long may that continue.

You must have been made up to chat with him. Paul Mariner was my striker as a teenager and when I met him I was a quivering wreck.

Glassers, honestly, it got me a little teary,

Never meet your heroes - they will make you all emotional and silly.

Brilliant. What did he have to say about Town this season?

We'd have been promoted by now with Marcus Stewart in the team. What a player. What a man.

He was pretty upbeat, thinks we are very well placed.... much more akin to your view this season than mine, JD....

he thought Hirst needs more game time, though... words to the effect of ' How can he get better on the subs bench...'

Bloody brilliant bloke.

Speaking of the great and the good, why is Mark Ashton in this video?

Happy with all he's done for the club but he shouldn't be tacked onto the end of these legends.

Fantastic. Not surprised it cheered you up after game!

What a player. Used to wear itfc gloves and pretend to be him growing up.

Glad he's positive about our chances.

Someone’s got to be first in a 24s clip. I very much doubt any disrespect was meant (beyond posting club stuff on a fascist-owned site). There are a lot of legends missing from that clip for starters. The main thing is the event they were at, and they were all there as equals.

How does he seem? Was he in good spirits still? I was lucky to see him a "an Evening With..." a year or so ago. He was so humble given how much of a hero he is to many, and how unswerving he's been in the face of such a horrible disease.

He was gregarious, welcoming and fully tolerant of my silly questions - a genuinely lovely bloke.

Humble - absolutely.

He's the absolute man.

Years ago when the Centre Spot was open lunch times,
Raff was in charge
Giles sat in the corner, disturb him at your peril.

I joined the queue, MS joined behind me,
he was the Premierships leading scorer at the time.
Joked about having to join the queue with us mere mortals, he laughed and said he did get a discount though!

Great to see him in pics looking so dapper, he is a legend,
and a fantastic brave humble bloke.

Such a great player. He deserved an England call up in 2000/01. He's responsible for some of my happiest Town supporting memories and I'll always have a lot of love for him.

Would have been nice, but so many PL clubs had top English forwards in those days - Cole, Fowler, Owen, Sheringham, Smith, Heskey, - that was a lot of people to get past.

Back when Marcus Stewart played for town he was a regular shopper in Sainsbury's Warren Heath. I worked the fruit and veg and on 7 separate occasions he asked where items were - and I recall them all - Garlic, chopped up lettuce, carrots, mushrooms, lemon grass and onions (twice). He was a very lazy shopper, gutted I was too shy to ever engage in conversation.

My favourite ever Town player.

If you think about it now, he would fit modern systems perfectly in that he could drop off, link up play, lovely eye for a pass and just the best of finishers. Also ridiculously good in the air and the master of the near post glance header.

I'd agree with Herb that in the modern day, without the big clug bias, he would definitely have been selected for England.

He really is a top bloke. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and I always enjoy his company. Mogga too, properly sounds guys.

Both been / going through more than their fair share of challenges in life, Mogga with the passing of his wife at such a young age and his more recent health issues. Stewart with his MND diagnosis. The way they conduct themselves among such adversity is truly inspiring. Gentleman both of them.
