People, of course, have the right to vote for whoever they want to vote for. But whilst there will be reform voters in the crowd at a home game, there will also be people there who will feel threatened by the rhetoric Farage promotes and see it as a threat to their way of life. Surely if you want to respect someone’s right to vote for Reform, you’ve also got to understand that there are people of varying backgrounds and sexuality who feel threatened by these sentiments. As i've said twice now - i don't think the club should be entertaining ANY politicians - football and politics should not mix - simple as that.

I've sent an email. The club shouldn't be allowing any politician to promote themselves, particularly in the run up to an election period. Football clubs are one of the few places where people can come together regardless of politics and find ground in an increasingly divisive world. I am sure those that disagree with my view would support my right to free speech in making my views heard. |  |

Surely the point is that it is not just a stadium tour. The publication of those photos demonstrate this was a carefully orchestrated event, and it is difficult to believe that the club were unaware of the intention to make it so. I have not had a stadium tour , but from posts by those that have, the kind of access afforded to Farage is not the norm, and someone must have given the OK for it. | | | |

If it was an official visit planned with the club, then it would have been all over Reform’s social media in advance, but it wasn’t.
They have basically booked a stadium tour, most likely not even in Farage’s name, and then made it out to be an official engagement.
Yet again underhand and deceitful behaviour by Frogface and Co but it hurts because it devalues everything the club stands for in my opinion.
I don’t feel the club can be blamed particularly as they are having to react in a difficult situation as he is an elected MP and will happily attempt to twist any negative press to his favour with his usual no more free speech b0ll0x etc. [Post edited 24 Mar 10:59]

I think this is the most likely explanation.
It's quite possible the club had no idea Farage was going to turn up until they were on the doorstep. With pre-printed Farage kit already in hand, acquired separately.
To expect whichever (possibly minimum waged) PR bods that did the actual meeting and greeting, to react in real time to what was going on, and tell him to do one, might be a big ask. |  |

Yeah I'm in this camp. Reform have engaged in something underhand here and made it look like Portman Road was the focus of their visit, when in fact the main event was miles away. Club have been caught out rather than complicit.
Someone in the club shop needs their head read if we printed those shirts though. "The clue is in the name" as the saying goes.
On the other hand I might e-mail Ashton and tell him to keep his head up. The club does far more good than harm in Ipswich and the wider county these days, from the remembrance events to fans who have died to the work with the elderly and disabled and minority communities. I bet he is livid this happened on the heels of the Foundation Fixture.
But the club can't really come out too hard as plenty of Town fans and other people in Suffolk will likely vote Reform in the next council and general elections. |  |

I one million percent agree it's not a great look for the club to be seen to be taking sides politically, but i think that applies to ALL politicians not just Nigel Farage. BUT as long as the same access would be given to those other policitcal leaders should they decide to visit then theres literally nothing to see here ....

The red flags were certainly there.
"Hi, can I have these ten shirts, all printed with 'FARAGE 10' please?" should have set alarm bells ringing.
Likewise, when Farage and his goons started putting said shirts up in the dressing room.
As others have said, it appears that Farage was met by the club's Head of Media, so the tour probably wasn't being run by some wet-behind-the-ears minimum wage employee. If the Head of Media cannot spot negative PR when it's occurring right in front of him, you'd rather question his suitability for the role. | |
