How do we feel about the Brum press conference? 10:10 - Mar 30 with 2113 viewsthebooks

I expect KM will refuse to answer any Ashton related questions, which is obviously fair enough.

More interested in the local media's approach. Do they ask the questions in the first place? Follow up?

The whole podcast, ex-player, website ecosytem's a bit cosy, isn't it? Like they've all bought into Ashton's plan/vision whatever, rather than reporting and being a bit more critical.

Very disappointed with the Star this morning.

I can see a few ways this can go, and it will say a lot about what is happening behind the scenes.

1 - Deflection... something dry such as "the players and coaching staff were unaware and uninvolved so these questions are better directed to the club".

2 - Outright division... saying he and/or the players are disappointed.

3 - Holding the current position... essentially repeating what was said in the video

4 - Attempted legitimisation, moving the current position on... such as "it's important that the club engages with anyone who may affect how football is governed in future and we would do this with anyone across the political spectrum as we are apolitical etc"

5 - Attempted rescue of Mark... along the lines of "he's devastated about how this has transpired, we all are..."

I expect deflection.

This puts McKenna in a difficult position. I think the fair thing would be for Ashton to do a press conference first to take questions, then McKenna can focus on football questions afterwards.

Let’s not pile on KM eh? None of this is on him. However he chooses to handle it, if asked, is perfectly fine.

Are we expecting anything other than the usual sensible answers from McKenna?

I’d imagine it’ll be along the lines of:

Players & staff aware of situation, we have discussed as a group internally but as professionals, all focus has to be on Mondays game. Good break for the guys with a few players getting minutes from the WHU friendly. Squad in a good place fitness wise for the relentless schedule coming up.

I'd imagine the press will be briefed very clearly to keep questions to a football nature. To be fair to McKenna, this isn't his pile of turd to own.

KM will be ready for such questions with carefully considered responses - albeit they may be along the lines of "not for me to comment"

I know some would love it if KM used the opportunity to say "actually it's a disgrace and I call upon Ashton to step down immediately"

But it's not going to happen is it? He'd have said something already if so.

I agree none of this is on him.

The (hopeless, or powerless) media team will have briefed him in advance on the "company's" (Mark's) position they want him to take. They may even lean on the journalists not to ask such questions in the first place.

However, given how erudite and considered he has been throughout his time here, he will not go into the press conference having not thought this through.

McKenna has surprised me with his forthrightness on issues such as Szmodics when he replied that his departure was not for footballing reasons. He easily could have simply deflected that question.

I don't think McKenna will be at all impressed with Ashton's actions.

If I was Ashton, I would not be keen to find out how McKenna will answer those questions. It could do with Ashton acting before the press conference.

Time to move on. I am not happy it happened, but happy to put it behind me and move on, I think the club now understands the huge dislike by Ipswich Town fans and media of Reform, Nigel Farage and the hatred for everything they stand for.
The focus is now on getting behind the players, the team and super Keiron McKenna.
Up or down, follow the Town.

I feel fine - has absolutely no direct impact on my life, and I can't influence it in anyway. So why worry about it?

Would assume the assembled media will be briefed/told/ordered to keep questions strictly to football.

Zero chance Ashton will do that. Zero. Any number less than zero, multiplied by lots of other zeroes.

(I have said before, but) I honestly hope that the local press keep it about football. McKenna is entirely blameless in this situation and his focus should be 100% on the match and we should be doing everything we can to support that.

I hope the local press continue to try to hold the club to account, but this would not be the forum for it.

The nationals? That's anyone's guess, but I think we all know which direction they will go in.

That sort of behaviour may work with the EADT, but I can't see it holding any sway with members of the national press who may be there. Hell, it would probably just make them more inclined to push on that particular issue.

As for the Star's 'forgiven but not forgotten' line, I would imagine that they and the EADT have received one hell of a slapping-down from the Club over the weekend, after the pieces by Mark Heath at the end of last week.

how many national press are there regularly? Very few I'd imagine. But no doubt many more for our first post-Farage game.

Mate, you have real issues with this don’t you, personally he has nothing to be forgiven for so any chance you actually get back to supporting the club .

Why is it so hard for you to accept that some may have different views from you?

I don't see anyone banging on at you that you should be appalled and calling for the club to be dissolved (exaggerated for effect before some idiot calls me out on that).

He is entirely entitled to his views, especially given the club's actions over the past week.

You are entirely entitled to yours. Doesn't mean you need to be a dick about it though.
