Ashton - a few truths 19:07 - Apr 2 with 5695 viewsSouperJim

He's objectively and demonstrably an excellent chairman. He's overseen the most rapid period of growth in the history of the club. Our success throughout the gamechanger era to date is as much down to him as it is McKenna, arguably more so.

Some folk on here have doubted him and disliked him from the start. I've seen endless references to his Brent-esque communication style over the last 5 years, references to his performance at Bristol City etc.

Yes, he's clearly dropped a stinker with this Farage business and doubled down on it by being economic with the truth. But I would suggest the strength of feeling on here about this sorry episode are not representative of the wider fanbase. One or two of you have just been waiting for the opportunity to get your knives out.

Anybody encouraging protests and chanting is an absolute numptard in my book. In the words of bignose, be on the inside piddling out, not on the outside piddling in. If the amount of energy being expended on this negativity instead went on getting behind the team, we might actually find ourselves promoted come the end of the season.

What's a numptard?

That is a wild wild claim that Ashton’s arguably been more responsible for our success than McKenna. Wild.

He is objectively and demonstrably a very good CEO. I think this whole episode shows clearly he is not to be trusted as a chairman one bit. Mike O'Leary was objectively and demonstrably an excellent chairman. Whilst O'Leary presided over Ashton we had success.

I never doubted Ashton and took no notice of those Bristol City fans. I apologise to them. I was wrong. I actually admire them all the more for not having come on here saying "we did warn you!" Even with recognising his success, you cannot ignore he is the master of soundbites which is where the Brent analogy comes from.

Not only has he dropped a stinker, he has acted in complete opposition to the values and integrity that the club has built its recent success around. He has made his position untenable. I have been 100% supportive of him and the whole direction of the club until he did this. I have never felt so bad about my club. But the club is far bigger than an individual. I have gone from 100% support to 100% he absolutely must go in a few days.

I get why people would protest. I won't be. If the club continue to fail to take appropriate action I probably will. I am very disappointed it is taking so long for the club to act. We need a chairman. We need to remove and replace Ashton. Those all need to happen with as much haste as is possible. He has become a stain on our club.

Oh, and is it OK for Ashton to be on inside piddling on our sponsors, our foreign players and their families, on the employees and on the fans?

I am on the inside but my piddling is on someone who should be on the outside already and the sooner that is put right the better.

I can't believe there are some people who'd see our clubs administration disbanded just to satisfy their need for a pound of flesh because of ONE incident.
It was a mistake, he's taken responsibility, he's apologised unreservedly. What do you want exactly? Stand in the centre spot and flagellate himself while you pelt him with rotten tomatoes?!

Perhaps a question of whether having Farage at the club makes him guilty by association. When Corbyn sat down with Hezbollah and Hamas, did it make him a terrorist? The political landscape is what it is. I'm fairly left wing and despise Farage, but I'm also willing to forgive Ashton in light of all the good work he's done here. Just this once.

I would say the he's been a good CEO on the whole. I think even if he is very Brent-esque in his communications up till the recent debacle, I don't think most would accuse him of Brent level management.

However you then decide to just go off on your own feelings and leave the truths behind. You suggest it's not true of the wider fanbase without any basis and then try to attribute it to "One or two of you have just been waiting for the opportunity to get your knives out" which feels like Lowehouse's infamous '40 people on TWTD' remarks. I'm not going to claim it's a majority of Town fans, but it's evidently a significant amount and far larger than one or 2 people.

Also, saying 'Ashton was economical with the truth' is itself economical with the truth. He/the Club have put out blatant lies during this.

I've made a point of having said my piece and not getting too involved any more (shame you weren't here earlier in the week ). You are welcome to dig through my posts for my views if you are so inclined (needless to say, I respect your opinion, but disagree for the most part). The latest KoA podcast and Terry Hunt's column on the EADT website do a pretty good job of capturing a significant portion of my views.

Seeing as Ashton actively sought out and employed KMK it's not so wild.

Having said that, Ashton needs to go.

Yes of course. The simple refusal to accept an honest apology for a very regrettable error. We've all done it at some point. I'm thankful to have been forgiven and to have been raised to forgive.
Hope that clarifies my feelings.

I think people should support the team on Monday, but there is only one person responsible for the division at the club and that's Ashton.

I think Ashton should go, and hopefully he will. His non apology was embarrassing.

Fairplay to Ashton for offering KM a job before anyone else did, but Sam Morsy and Gamechanger were arguably more responsible for driving the change.

I've always said that I thought he's done a decent job, but I've always disliked his delivery / Brent persona. His ego has always been too big, and now it might be his downfall.

COYB.

P.S. Its OK to disagree.

I value integrity from leadership, and he has shown him self to lack integrity and to be dishonest.

His 'apology' was embarrassing and hollow, and in my eyes made matters worse.

I don't believe he is irreplaceable. He's still living off the back of one outstanding season, which was largely down to KM and Morsy.

I'm not getting dragged into all of this again, but I will say.... that is the kind of apology that can only possibly be accepted by people who think there is nothing to apologise for.

It is akin to me kicking you in the balls and saying "I'm sorry that your balls hurt". It lacks contrition, accountability and any recognition that it was my action that was wrong and not the pain that you felt.
